Archer class and mouse gameplay

I think the current control scheme using the mouse is very confusing and non-intuitive, specially when targeting monsters. I’ve only played the archer class so I can’t comment on other classes, but I found the following points could be improved (sorry if they’ve been pointed out before):

  • There is no key to lock the character in place when shooting (usually Shift in games like Diablo). The loading screen advertises that Alt should have this function but it doesn’t seem to work. This causes you to accidentally move when you don’t want to.

  • If I want to move and shoot at the same time (currently done by holding Z), simply moving the mouse over another monster makes you change the target, which often happens accidentally. Ctrl is supposed to lock on your current target, but this doesn’t seem to work at all for me, and seems unnecessary even if it did. It is much more natural to click to change targets.

  • The right mouse button currently does nothing when it could be a useful key binding (auto attack perhaps).

I’m sure people will have different opinions about this, so ideally we would be able to customize our controls more freely.

with mouse control you don’t use the Z button, though, you left click the enemy you want to hit while you manage your walking directions with wasd

Yeah but saying that left click on the ground and you will move to where you click, can be annoying at times with miss clicks

True enough. Fighting bosses and using mouse_1 to auto attack often leads to walking towards them or their AoE attack. Same with normal mobs of course.

just hold the left click D:
(missing click in boss is… omg…)
[sry bad eng]

WASD isn’t optimal.

Using frontal AOE skills such as the wizard’s “Earthquake” will often result in failure, because for some reason, if for example you are going right and decide to use the skill, with the target in that same direction, your character decides to act intelligent and point the Earthquake somewhere completly different. (Press D -> Attack -> Attack lands in A direction)

However, this NEVER happens if you use the mouse to move around and use these type of attacks.

The downside to using mouse to move is that sometimes objects hidden behind walls are impossible to reach without changing to keyboard mode and using space (there should be a hotkey to open items without the mouse in mouse mode!), and, as said above, the fact that it’s incredibly easy to lose your target due to lack of target-lock with mouse controls.

we are talking about archer though. only real problem besides having to sidestep while fighting is the problem with the backspace teleport to quest npcs, the click on the destination ( if multiple are available) is counted as a step on the ground and if you are unlucky your char tries to move to that point, canceling the port

Archer class and mouse gameplay.

Haven’t had that teleport issue happen to me though.

Had that issue too. When talking to npcs, clicking a conversation option will also register as a move which is annoying.

all they need to do is have an option that you can turn off click to move

I haven’t played in mouse mode, but are you pressing the ctrl button once or holding it down? You only need to press it once and target lock will remain on for your entire session. It will default to being off again if you relog.

In mouse mode, CTRL does not toggle anything. When in keyboard mode you can see whether or not you are target-locking because it tells you on the bottom left, while in mouse mode, that does not happen.

Ah I see. That definitely sounds like a bug then.
