Tree of Savior Forum

Another irelevant post by me

I know that i’m not an active member of the forums and when i do post in here most of them are a bunch of pointless/useless stuff, but this has been bugging me since the day i started my journey as a Peltasta and man i do need someone to give me answers because i can’t think of a valid reason, not even a single one, for this to be the way it is.

Before anything, this is not my first time playing as a Peltasta, so i already know how terrible we’re at dealing damage because of our scalings, they’re just crab, and the only damage improvement we get, without spending a single stat point on STR, comes with [Butterfly] at circle 3 which in my opinion is a decent damage ability at my current level (80 - 100) for a class that lacks of it. Then some day while doing my daily stuff it comes to my mind “i know we’re meant to keep the mob away from our adorable and squishy teammates so they can be safe and do the damage we can’t afford, but c’mon man you just don’t only get a few tickles when being hit by a big ass shield, that has to hurt”, and i say, “if we, along with Rodelero and the upcoming Murmillo are the classes which interact the most with shields, why don’t our abilities just scale with the shield’s stats or weight or the whatever, i don’t know, something crazy?”.

After minutes of overthinking about this like i do most of the time with pointless and petty stuff, i decide to forget about it and continue on the developing on my own tanking build. Then, for my bad fortune, when looking at the other classes for mere curiosity, i encounter with something that made me so mad that i… i just…

Again, this will probably look irelevant to you and i’m not even sure if this information is 100% veridic… but for real, what is this? Is this some sort of joke i don’t get?

Why does a class that has nothing to do with shields, because let’s be honest, aside from [Finestra] which increases the block rate and for obvious reasons you need a shield for blocking, Hoplites are supposed to be a class focused on the use of spears and they shouldn’t be getting such scalation, and what is more funny, this is the only ability that has it, while the Peltasta has SIX which interact with the shield as the main weapon and let’s not talk about the other two shield user classes which have the same story but with their entire skillset. Dude c’mon you already have a mob size based damage feature on your exclusive weapon and u want more?. And now don’t come to me with the “but bro we warriors and we able to use shields because warriors”. Dude, even Wizards can equip them.

So, what’s the reason behind this? What is the point?
Because yo, not even Murmillos that claim to be the most powerful shield user class in the game scale like that…

PLEASE GIVE ANSWERS

And please tell me i’m not the only freak that thinks this is wrong… at least not the only that’s been bugged by this.

(Just to be clear, i’m not ranting about Hoplites or anything just on this specific skill. Have nothing against 'em.)

Hoplites were citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greek city-states who were primarily armed with spears and shields.

Pretty sure this is IMC’s way of saying, “We have to put at least some shield skill for this class”

Why does a class that has nothing to do with shields

Yes, sorry that was my bad. I blame my lack of knowledge. But anyway, even if they were trying to put, how you say “at least some shield skill for the class”, i still don’t get the point of that kind of scalation and i think is a little unfair for the ones that entirely rely on shields as their main weapon.

I like your writing style. It’s sincere and funny.

Lostac is accurate on the history fact but IMC allows Murmillos to equip spears, shinobis to wear shields and such so I wouldn’t be surprise if there were Wizards shooting people with pistols.

Back on topic, yeah, it’s unfair and seems wrong. Welcome to swordsman class.

Some really good points. You should post more often. As for the topic, the swordsman tree is how IMC gets a laugh. Almost every skill defies common sense, and we have to suffer through crap like a random item spawn that could take days or weeks to show up for you, in order to advance a job quest that just happens to be… you guessed it, hidden. The person primarily in charge of class design for swordsman is a sadist for sure.

Oh man, a gun wizard shooting elemental bullets. Sign me up.

My kind of hoplite. Give us this helmet!!!

Ehhhh, please don’t do this to my eyes :sob:.

Hoplite is a damage based class, but historically, they wield shields and spears. In this game, and in pretty much any rpg, shields are a defensive piece of equipment designed specifically for defending. So a class that’s designed for attacking really has no need for a piece of equipment designed for defending. This is where this skill comes into play: it takes the defensive stat on the shield and multiplies into damage, so that a defensive piece of equipment becomes an offensive piece of equipment. So then, why doesn’t Peltasta or Rodelero have this? Because they are not offensive classes, they are defensive. They are designed to take damage, not deal it.
