An honest review and proposed fix for sapper

So to be blunt, it’s underwhelming.

I first chose sapper because I like the idea of playing the sneaky trapmaster~ Laying a bounty of traps behind me, and leading my unsuspecting prey into a minefield. But what I got was the ability to put down regular paper under the guise of fly paper.

The traps themselves function admirably, but they don’t last long. Even fully upgraded punji sticks only allow you to get a grand total of 4 up before the first crumbles to dust. and the cast time is far too long to set them up offensively.

The damage on some traps are really good don’t get me wrong. But due to the short uptime on traps, the class feels a bit more like i’m being forced to play an offensive trapper, which would work if it wasn’t for the long cast times aswell. ( don’t even get me started on the cooldowns for the arrow trap and claymore.)

The only viable way to get the most out of this class that i’ve seen is to have peltastas to aggro a group of monsters to keep them off of you while you set up a couple traps for them to walk back into.

A good way I feel to fix this is just make conceal trap actually increase the uptime of traps to match it’s level, and to give the one that placed it an outline so they can remember that it is there. Not being able to see the trap hurts more than it helps if you can’t lead people to it effectively, and there’s no point in having the traps invisibility last 6 minutes when the trap will dissapear after 20 seconds.

As it stands I feel like this would fix the identity of the class for people like myself wanting to play a trapmaster, and would serve to make leveling conceal worth the skill points. Because right now I feel like a point in conceal is just wasted. Numbers would have to be tweaked as to maximum number of hidden traps or total duration hidden, but it’d be worth it.

TL:DR sapper feel like it’s lacking in delivering on it’s main identity, I propose changing conceal to actually lengthen the time traps stay active. as well as a couple quality of life changes for conceal.

It’d be cool to get into one spot on a map, lay down traps and use’em to farm for a good 5 to 10 minutes before setting it up again. Probably the damage would need to be lowered so you don’t afk grind.

I believe Conceal would be a PvP focused skill, but the game is far from balanced to make it viable right now.
