High or Barb? Any suggestions on what will do well for an alternative Goon build?
A good alternative dragoon build is to go lancer and forget about dragoon.
Try it. Hop2 + Lancer1 = outdamage my dragoon by soo much damage. (Spear lunge + crush + quintain)
SW2>Hop2>Squire3>Lancer1.
It outdamage my hop3>dragoon2. I am serious.
With decent gear, you can get 100k - 300k damage (depending on your gear) per crush/quintain.
I’ll pass on mounted classes. Besides, there are far too many Lancers out there now. I’ve read on how horrible Dragoons are now, but no balance is permanent in this game. I’m just trying to find some alternative to the standard hop3/cata3-goons.

Barb3 Dragoon can be really good, but i don’t think that highlander is a smart choice to pick if you’re going dragoon… Anyway, it can still work. Don’t keep thinking much in the meta or what is more strong, just do whatever you find more cool.
What I was thinking, I just threw Highlander because of the filler damage (crown-moulinet, crosscut-skyliner), since it seems that Dragoon has shitty damage but yeah I guess Barb will be a better choice. Thanks
Already burned out for today, will test out Sw3>Hl2>Barb/Dop>Goon tomorrow see how it’ll fare for a Goon since its working fine for my Fencer.

I’m running Sw3-High2-Dopp-Goon2 build and it feels nice for me. I’m not sure how it will fare out at end game content (still at 284) but I think I’ll stick with this. Wanted to build an “Odin” like character, without Sleipnir. lol
Glad you’re also having fun on using the build. I likely rollback to the old classic HopGoon since I want my spear maiden to be er…spear centric.

Anyone tried HL3 Cata3 Lancer? XD I want to but I’m too lazy to respec my HopMurm which is doing great already. Too focused on my farmer SR now.
A friend of mine tried it, in PvE context it’s doing great. Almost, endless skill rotation in HG. I will try it as well on my main. Btw, what class path is your hopmurm?
I see. I’ve had that theorycrafted build in my mind since news of free reset with rework came.
It’s still hard to just simply abandon Sword3 though. P.Barrier and Restrain are still too good to give up. Gung Ho and Concentrate have gotten better too.
I’m currently running Sw1 Pel1 Hop3 Squire2 Murm. I intend to keep it that way when reset ends as a taxi, personal repair, and saalus slave. I’ll be maining my SR now (which used to be a Falconer3) which I’m having tons of fun with after trying out so many other builds.
I theorycrafted that same build long time ago as well
But i dont think i want that many skills on my hotkey bar tbh
True, all my lvl 300 swordsman have sw3 as it’s base; sw3cata3corlancer1, sw3hop2barb1goon2, and sw3barb2dop3 these all used to be cataphracts. haha
My Swordsman is only 243 right now, but i really want to test a dragoon build.
Thinking about sw3hop3dragoon2 / sw3hop3dragon1lancer1 or Sw1>Pelt1>Hop3>Doppel1>Dragoon2 would those be good?
1st and 2nd option is nice, the 3rd one is an old build.
I was thinking of doing SW3-High3-Shin-Lancer Just cause.
Strong build as PVE. The damage is comparable with dopple if not stronger.
