Advice on tank/dps

Hi Guys,

I’ve just started playing a Swordsman and I’m leaning towards being a Tank with part dps.

I’m currently Swordsman -> Pelstesta. Need advice on what is viable in the future. I’m trying to avoid the hoplite route ( not really a fan of spears )

Currently leveling solo, but planning to work with a party when I manage to catch up with my pals.

Any suggestions? Not really sure about stats either. I just went full con to be safe. (Its at 50 now)

Is this build any good?

or this

I would not recommend barbarian c2 personally. I really feel that it’s pretty much a c1 or c3 class.

for a good end game tank the minimun req would be pel 2, you want to tank but your build focuses on dps, this is just an hybrid build like many others posted before

Hi,

I did say i wanted to tank AND dps.

I guess that means I need a hybrid build? A mixture of both?

I thought warriors are already natural tanks… Any swordsman has increased HP and the attribute for increased aggro available at rank 1. Building “tank” is kind of silly anyway when magic is blocked by only one rodelero ability and that might be a bug…

I highly suggest reading the post on builds at the top of this forum and finding a build that has good synergies while getting to know what the swordsman classes actually offer.

Hello, it really depends on your playstyle. If you wanted a more balanced build, I would advice avoiding getting Peltasta again. Getting it for its manual blocking and the related attributes is all you need on the defensive end actually. The skills in further circles have the potential of hurting your DPS potential. (by what degree, I don’t know yet. I’m planning to go Pelt C2. 2 levels to go.)

I would have to agree with @lawligator. The class is a natural tank and investing into your preferred classes just varies your utility in being a “Tank”. Some classes excel in defensive utility while others go better with damage. Both are actually needed as you can’t be a damage sponge forever. You should probably read the pinned topics so you have an idea about all the classes and how they might work together to form your desired outcome.

There is no one build that serves as a tank really.

Here’s what I’ve gathered from my own readings, simulator tweaking, and in-game experience:

Pelt C1 - All you need for defensive 101. All necessary attributes are all here. Going any further, you will have a harder time leveling. Try alternating with a different class if you plan going deeper. The only merit would be getting more points for Swash. Everything else is just decent. (Getting this to C3 for the supposed solo challenge.)

Hop C1 - C3 - Finestra. Finestra. Finestra. It increases your block and critical rate chance. I think this is one of the skills that win in both worlds. Care for the Evasion Penalty though. This and a bunch of nasty piercing skills. Synchro Thrust for the win though!

Cataphract - More health from riding your pet and the resulting mobility that it has. Not sure how many circles you need to maximize the effect. Read that Earth Wave cleans house real well.

Rodelero - Slithering, the infamous Slithering. I hope it is really designed to work that way, giving 10s Magic Immunity. This supposed to be a great class with all its CC capability. Sadly most don’t work on bosses and some just flat out need rework. (Still getting this to at least C2. Fingers crossed for the supposed buff.)

Fencer - If you build into DEX, evasion increase will help in Tanking. And everyone is saying that it holds up pretty well in the damage department.

That’s about it. Other classes, in my opion are more Damage oriented. Which I made clear, is necessary for making “tanking” easier. Less enemies. Less Time mobbing. More time for :cookie:
