ADVENTURER JOURNAL. good or bad thing in this game?

i personal think it is BAD if record the achievement per character.

for what i see, this game encourage ppl to make multi char in 1 account… for this reason only i think the adventurer journal should share it record with all character.

if this game want make a record per character: just record moster, item, quest…

for map, hidden npc, and many thing that require character to explore, pls dont record it if you make it per character… there is so many map, if you explore it with just 1 character then it is fine…

this sound unimportant for some ppl, but for ppl that love lore, this is an important thing to make them enjoy this game.

I really like adventure journal and I think it’s a really good thing to discover hidden NPC’s and classes.
“this game encourage ppl to make multi char in 1 account.” it’s a basic thing when u make one acc, no?.. ._.

In fact, you’re asking for an extra sheet in the journal with global account’s statistics, no?

why? we dont even have shared storage… -_-
and I heard you need character slot for pet… is this really true? lol
I will need many accs in tos, since we have 4 slots x_x

Correct. The game encourages you to create a multitude of characters on your account. Not only with the adventure journal but also in general, that is how the game wants you to play. You need to create several characters to gain easier access to materials or services you would otherwise have to pay for. Like the Sapper using materials that you can easily gain from the Dievbrys or an Alchemist enabling you to awaken your weapons.

Having to rediscover the map and locations may become quite the pain, but if the adventure journal still gives out iCoins for completing it, then it’s only to your own personal benefit.

Also, did you really plan to make only 1 character?
I get when you’re talking about a main char but I imagine you having a hard time in any game when you only create 1 character and never fiddle around with the other classes.

Personally I hate when journals are separate for different chars on 1 acc. Why would you want to redo an achievement that took literally years to do? As I remember ToS will have some of those insane achievements so… AND if you playing with multiply chars it means to achieve those achievements will take even more time…maybe you won’t even get them ever.

On the other hand if we get iCoins just like @kill5link said…that’s a bit different situation… XD

As long as the Adventure Journal gives iCoins and is separate for each character on one account (basically, the way it is right now) I won’t mind redoing everything all over again. The many classes was enough to make me create tons of characters. This is only just a really, really nice bonus and I’d like to keep the journal system the way it is now.

About that, I’d say it’s the other way around really.

We hope for your understanding for this since we believe that players will be more affectionate to their characters when they become unique and distinct from other players’ characters after a long period of playtime instead of just allowing diverse customization options from the beginning.

From the blog itself, this is a well known quote about character customization. I think it explains very well the design philosophy behind many choices and restrictions in the game.

While I agree that it’s cumbersome to go through all of the Adventure Journal achievements from scratch in a new character (in fact I myself made a suggestion similar to yours here) I think it won’t be changed and we’ll have to just start accepting that they really want us to commit to a character and grow fond of them. It’s not something I’m particularly used to, but I can see the nobility in a design choice like that.

My only question is how unique and distinct will each character be from each other considering the developers wanted us to be attached to one or very few characters? Just hypothetically but if people are already trying to find the best possible DPS, CC, and Support builds, won’t these builds be ranked and eventually the unique builds aren’t viable or considered anymore?

It’s just PR talk. You are right in your assessment to question it. If they wanted people to be unique and distinct, they would have implemented one of the myriads of ways to add more customization to your characters (even with cosmetic cash shop). They also wouldn’t have added iCoin gains from the adventure journal, created a complex class system like the one they use now and wouldn’t have made many more such decisions in that direction.
More options doesn’t equal more freedom after all.
I would rather pick 1 of 2 real estates than choose between one of one hundred different cages to rot in.

Well, for starters, although the quote is talking about cosmetic customization (hairstyles, eye colors) I think that for build paths it’s the same thing (hopefully). They’ve been doing lots of balancing and the fact they’re experimenting with the class advancement system at least shows that they’re concerned about this too. My personal opinion is that the new system ended up opening a little too much choice, thus trivializing it and moving away from the philosophy I mentioned in my previous post. It’s not that I don’t like the new system, but I get that feeling. We’ll see.

Cookie-cutter builds will happen, and it ‘endangers’ the notion of uniqueness and how viable it is to think outside the box, but with the huge variety of classes inside each base class tree I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I think specialization and situational awareness will be key to being successful in ToS.

Now then you have this other quote if it makes you feel better (it’s really old though)

Before, there were 4 stats, but now we have “Spirit”.

I know that you are accustomed to increase “Strength” to Swordsman, but you can also make an agile or an intelligent Swordsman.

Probably char slots will be cash, just like gw2.

Char slots… Isn’t it the bigger barracks? You know, the pyro theme and the mansion… buyable with iCoins.

Is ok… is normal to 've character achievements This exists in many games Over the years… isn’t strange it works like this… and changing it to make it easier would Dumb Down the game EVEN More…
gotta love casul posts…

There’s a big difference though, ToS is free2play. Players need an incentive to invest in a single account. In fact, demanding payment would even become counterproductive to the barracks’ cosmetic value if no other significant advantage exists. Shared storage would be an example but I don’t know if they plan to include it. Considering the amount of combinations they could make the barracks into a major revenue stream. In that case it would be smart to add account-bound achievements. However, they would have to have a different effect, if any. and not be part of the ladder.

They switched GW2 to f2p as well, that’s why this doesn’t work very well in the core edition anymore, but the newest addon will always remain buy2play. As such, having to invest money players have a reason not to open a new one.

Well, my answer is ; it’s a good thing, either the record progress is shared or not.

It’s one of few requirement to get hidden class right? similar to “trust level” in this forum i think.

And let’s hope that the record progress will be shared in the next beta test.

idk how many times i’ve seen this kind of post but this journal u can choose to ignore it~

and i don’t think making it shared would make the game realistic =,= put urself in the character your playing, imagine your one of the characters, not one account (with many inside)

@BOS_Thomi really?? then secret class will be always rank 7++ then??

what i mean “encourage to make multiple char in 1 account” is because we cant reset our path like maybe GW2 / TESO… so it will difficult to decide which character will be your main and to complete your journal…

so then if you already content with your current class, there will be update, new class, hidden class in future… so if you must redo all your journal thing in new character, you will never complete your journal if you are not dedicated your life in this game

i mean it is not a big problem, yes, it is just a record… but it is BETTER for some ppl if it is account shared… and of course i hope for shared warehouse too… It is still in CBT, so i want make a suggestion here.

@Staryx well, off course journal shared or not, doesnt affect your gameplay at all, except if what @BOS_Thomi said is true, it is important to unlock secret class… if not then it is just a hobby and maybe OCD for some ppl when you see “achievement/journal” to complete it…

ya, but for those who don’t want the hidden class cause it’s basically does not fit their gameplay at all, they will ignore XD (just hope hidden classes have my gameplay)

My apologize if i made some misconception. It’s based on my own browsing on
http://toswiki.treeofsaviorgame.com/class/hidden_class
and look at the bottom of that page

for those who won’t bother clicking, i’ll copy-paste some content:

""Note:
1.There is only one hidden class for each job type.
2.The hidden class may not occur as Rank 10 class, they may appear anywhere in the Ranks.
3.If No. 2 is true. Player can choose to skip hidden class in favor of advancing to a second circle in their current class.

So, 19 classes + 1 hidden class = 20 classes. Multiply this table by 4 (because we have basic Swordsman, Cleric, Archer and Wizard class) we will get 76 revealed classes and 4 hidden classes. Do note that:

Plus, developers did mention that players will unlock hidden class when they have achieved enough Adventure Achievement points in the Adventure Journal.""
