Account wide companion? and auto follow question

I saw somewhere about companions you could buy that can be used by all characters on your account? How hard is to get a decent one and do they actually fight? Oh oh and can clerics heal their companion?

Auto following. will there be an option to set someone on auto follow? I am home all the time due to medical stuffs, but have a family member who is willing to try the game with me… but I need to keep close in level (I think?) so the xp doesn’t drop for them. Would love to be able to just go out to their PC and set them on auto follow on me.

Thanks to everyone. Tons of questions I have and the community has been so great  hope this will reflect to a great community in game also.

companion are share by all character within, so yea, and you can heal it as well… but for auto following, there none of that I believe o.o

neat! glad you can heal it! so I could use it on a cleric and just heal it and never have to melee? I want to play a healer… just don’t want to melee combat.

The easiest (and cheap) way to acquire a companion is rolling an Archer til you reach rank 3 and then selecting Hunter. During the quest advancement youll be awarded a voucher that grants you a velheider (that grass rat thing) for free.

The pet will count in your character slot limit and in your lodge you can manage who will have it active. You can even delete your Hunter if needed. They do auto-attack, but nothing extraordinaire.

And like @RaraDeaf said, theres no auto-follow function.

Yes, they can fight on their own. The Hunter class can also command them to use skills. As for getting a decent one…I’m not sure if there are any stat differences between any of them, so just pick which one you like for now. Currently, you can buy one from certain NPCs, get a free one if you advance to Hunter, Cataphract, or Schwarze Reiter, or join a Guild and raise one yourself.

I don’t know if they will add a follow function, but you can always leave your partner char on a safe spot, lure the mobs and kill it in a safe distance, only will have to go to his/her PC when you need to change spot for a better EXP.

You can find some info about pet/companion on this thread

The cheapest one requires “some farm” for the first character when alone and not really familiar with the game, but nothing tedious. In combat, the damages are a bit irrelevant and the AI simple but they can still take some aggro.

Thank you all and thanks for the tip on going hunter! I might do that just for the free pet before I make my main character

I am not sure you can depend on your companion to carry you as a melee. Your companion follows you from behind, which means aggresive monsters will attack you first. If the monsters are not aggresive, your companion won’t even auto-attack and you have to aggro them first. Secondly, without Hunter’s skill “Rushdog”, companion’s regular auto-attack will be worse than your regular auto-attack.

Currently, companions are designed to be significantly beneficial only for several certain classes. If you have ever heard of Shepherd or Llama, you may be expecting those classes to be cleric classes that are companion-related in the future. But, as of now, as a cleric, companion is only a virtual girlfriend.

I’m really excited for the shepard class, i know it’s gonna take a while for us to see released.

Shepherd Forum Stuff

So companion mechanics could change a lot, as a lot of other stuff.
Shepherd will be a cleric class, so i guess there might be two paths you can follow, depending on what you’re companion will do.

Hey @jochris that class name is Lama, no? I dont think it has much to do with Llamas.

HAHA my bad. Here’s a more righteous version maybe:

a lot of people dont even get a companion

see, u can atack any monster with your heal skills, and cure is a good atack skill too

oh I didn’t even know they can be use for damage. Yay! so there is hope!

Companions are very useful when you create another character, the companion will be very strong and tank.

it start as a dmg/heal skill, and u can buy an upgrade to make it only heal (u can turn this on/off), so u can go int/spr build, dont worry. also the sadhu class, the out of body damage is based on int, so cleric 3 > sadhu with a high int build isnt a bad idea (u can use the cleric shield to protect your body while u fight)
