About ToS in general - a newbie here

Hello ToS community,

Just a quick introduction, I’ve played Ragnarok Online for half of my life (literally). The first time I heard of TOS was when a site said that this could be the “next ragnarok”, but then I forget about this and continued playing RO.

Now, I really believe that finding a good RO private server is really difficult, so I decided to try TOS, but I have a few questions about it before I start:

  • Is there any guild wars as Ragnarok’s War of Emperium? I played mainly because of WoE and if ToS is more focused towars PvM I’ll probably have a hard time adapting myself
  • How about the classes? Are they all balanced or some classes are more IMBA than others?
  • Is there a lot of players here?

I think that’s enough for now. I’m kinda excited to start a new game, but I’m afraid that I’ll miss RO, as similar as ToS could be to it.

Thanks guys!

Not exactly, there is some abomination you could call guild wars but any RO player would be immensely disappointed

Some are practically useless while others are extremely strong, you can have fun with most of them though and there are balance reworks coming(never)(soon):tm:

Depends on the server, but usually the answer is no

I would treat this game as its own and would try to not compare it too much to RO. They have similarities yes but ToS is entirely a different game for sure.

I find that players enjoy this game the most when they are not expecting a copy of RO.

Questions were answered already so I thought I’d just add this in.

Oh, thanks! You guys are quick here, I like it! hahaha.

So, which class would you recommend for someone who’d play solo? And what server should I pick?

I see. I’ll try not to compare, then. Thank you so much for your piece of advice, I’m definitely going to change my perspective of ToS

You pick a class you like, unless you are actually mentally challenged and need help with that as well. And the server just depends on your region
If you play on NA I recommend Klaipedia

You should not compare them tbh, and you should try for yourself too, different opinions end up clouding your own, having experienced first hand still the best way to go.

As for classes to start with, I suggest a Cleric tree, it’s the cheaper since you won’t have to worry about buying pots and have the highest survivability.

You can find all kinds of builds with explanations on tosbase.com.

TOS<<<<<<<<RO, there is no pvp or pve content here.

I’m still playing dont ask me why

No to the three questions.
But it’s a good game if you have a lot of free time to spend.

Fast answer: No to all your 3 questions as well.

As others have said, the best opinion would be your own so try the game yourself without comparing it to RO. Treat it as something different.

I can understand that it will be hard to do so at first considering how this game was initially hyped by most fans as RO’s successor with Kim Hakkyu (reputed as the “Father of Ragnarok Online”) behind it.

Now if I am to compare the two, I’ve had more fun in RO while TOS is uniquely fresh (on my first 3 chars) on its own. If there was a better MMORPG right now, I probably won’t be playing this game even if casually.

Also, I hate the “forced” experience (e.g. dailies) in some aspects of this game in order to be decent at later levels.

That’s just me though. Maybe it’s different for others and will be different for you.

As you can see, we here at ToS are all very friendly.

As what Patsch said, any class would be great, as long as you’d have a lot of fun playing them.

There are some really great soloing classes in the game such as Quarrel Shooter c3 with their Running Shot, requiring only a Grand Cross and a property attack dagger to perform well.

For swordies there’s the tried and tested Hop c3 Dopp Dragoon c2 with their 0cd Spear Throw. For Wizards there’s a lot of variations involving Pyro, Linker, and Thaumaturge. And for Clerics as long as you have Cleric c2 you’re gonna be able to solo well.
