This might be a silly question, but will ToS be exclusive to steam? o-o.
This is something that I’m concerned about as well.
This seems to be the case as of now. To launch ToS international beta, steam must be open. It definitely has its pros and cons. Only a few I can think of at the moment…
Pros:
Less chance of bots (need to create a steam account)
Maybe use VAC? (Kinda doubt this but never know)
Easier to push updates (This is debatable)
Possible in-game item trading integrated with steam? (CSGO, DOTA 2, TF2 like system)
Cons:
A little bit more frustrating for a new player
Steam NEEDS to be open to launch the game. (I am not a huge fan of this at the moment. I am an avid steam user but this bugs me a little).
If steam is down for maintenance will we even be able to connect?
I forgot to add that I meant for full release, sorry.
any game that using steam is A+, i am glad its coming to steam.I never seen steam down for maint ever for last 7+ years. they made perfect choice for put on steam .
From their wording it seems we have chancees for independant launcher on official release. Which is something i’d prefer to use over steam.
Cons: It’s steam. Many don’t want to support steam for many reasons which you could just google.
New reason. You won’t be able to share accounts anymore like people did in RO. Once you lend something to a guildmate/friend, consider it lost. You won’t be able to have a guild minstrel etc character you guys could give out for GvG aka WoE or PvP. So if you need a certain class for a proper setup and that person isn’t on, GG. Everyone will have to make extra classes to fill in the void. Have fun with that extra grind. Big guilds are gonna be a bit annoyed off this. Unless there is some unknown work around I do not know about.
Never said it was a bad thing. And steam does go into maintenance at times but its only for like 5 mins. It just seems to cut the friends list off for like 5 minutes. Doesn’t really matter that much. I’d say steam is A+ but as for every game that uses steam? Not so much. The game itself can be bad, just because its on steam doesn’t mean its A+.
I hope they add a separate client that doesn’t require steam.
Even if Steam is down, you should be able to connect to any non Valve games since Valve doesn’t control the servers for ToS.
Also @Immortal, Steam does a weekly Maintenance every week and you can check the Server Stats here
Either hardcore fanboy or trollin.
I have no idea how many times I’ve googled in the past “Is steam down.”
Look at the stats right now in the past 24 hours. There was a peak of 897 reports on this website.
https://downdetector.com/status/steam
And just a minute ago on steamstat, steam webapi/TF2 was down.
@thread
Honestly if they don’t make a separate login, I won’t be sticking around.
If you look up Google, then you will also find several reports… and it’s freaking Google. I like Steam. It is much more reliable than a small company; I think we can all agree on that. Steam’s update times are always faster than other platforms games (at least for me).
That being said, I would prefer a normal account creation for both the forum and the game. I don’t like Google+, and I don’t have a Facebook account. I don’t see why they had to limit everyone.
I’ve been using steam for 2 years in a row. Never seen it on “maintenance”.
Also, a good thing about steam is that it converts the money for any region, theres over 20 options to purchase stuff. And thats freaking amazing.
lol people who don’t support steam are just tinfoil hat wearing crazy people really. trust me any of the “data” collection that people might be afraid off I BET MY LIFE that just using a web browser gives more info that then steam ever does if you have ever used an ip blocker look at how many Disney data miner servers are looking at you XD that can freak you out. but really anyone not using steam for any reason like that is a sad person.
you are idiot, steam is what save pc gaming and also saving many indie developer, also game release on steam, GET BETTER CHANCE of more peoples to see and try out. again, I never seen steam going under maint ever. might not get connect to friend list, but its just 2-5 min, but I still can play ANY game normally.
I know that, but like you say, it still let you connect to any other none valve game. like this one.
The application can still be accessed. It never goes down as routine. The thing that goes down are Valve online games. Even if Steam needs to restart for a client update it will not force you.
Im glad they decided to use Steam, it works wonderful, barely ever had an issue with it + really good download speeds.
I have no clue how “people did in RO” since I never played it, but you can share Steam accounts.
I can log in my friend’s account from my own PC/IP without him having to give me any access code, and if you want all your other games to be safe, make a new Steam account just for ToS.
Although most of the MMORPG that I played through Steam require me to make an account for the game, like Dragon Nest Europe, log in to Steam > launch game > log in DN (with DN account that is not the same as Steam account) > play.
Some here are quite uninformed… I shall not address the steam cult any further here. Google if you want to be told off and find actual arguments because it seems like I’ll just be talking to a giant brick wall here. Please, do google. I implore you.
Even if Steam is down, you’ll still be able to access online services that Valve doesn’t control. I agree with you on the part that people need to stop ignoring the fact that Steam is not a “god sent” software since it also has its problem. Online services goes down quite often for Steam too.
We wont google, we use it. I use it everyday, i have over 80 games there, which i play daily, what the hell you talking about dude ? Please, step aside and do exactly as you need to do, leave it be.
Steam is good. End.
