About fighting monsters above your level

How worth it to do is this? I have the power to kill things at least 20 levels above me most of the time but don’t because I can’t tell if the exp gain is any different at all from killing things my own level.

Does anyone have any advice or information towards fighting things a higher level than yourself?

stay in your level range and be a good boy :^)

Fight monster 10+level max…the ideal is 5+ tough, otherwise you ill get exp penalty…

You would be getting an exp deminish by quite allot at that level.

I think the optimum range is -/+ 5 of the monsters level.

So if I’m understanding this correctly the exp penalty works in reverse too? You get penalized for fighting things above your level?

That’s kinda sad to me but I guess it makes sense.

I sorta wish there was a slight exp buff for fighting stuff higher level on my own since I do a lot of solo play and leveling is so grindy and slow when you run out of quest cards or didn’t save enough.

but thanks for the info guys.

So, should I be fighting monsters ideally lower level but not more than 5 levels lower than me? Since overkill gives bonus exp - would that be the optimal way to be grinding when mob killing?

You can be 5 levels below or 5 levels higher.

but killing mobs faster = more exp and better overkill chance right ! so generally you want to be 5 levels higher…? I think.

is more like ± 5 levels of difference, and IIRC overkill doesn’t give extra exp now.

According to the links in the first replies, the window is +/-4 levels. 5 levels is where the penalties start.

monsters above your level get additional defense and attack against you. Usually fighting them is not profitable because by the time you kill 1 you could have killed 3-5 of lower level and got more exp by doing so. You also dont get bonus exp nor any exp penalty by fighting higher lvl monster.

Well that much is obvious but I’m at a point where I can kill something 10 levels higher than me just as easily with my archer class having high dps.

You would think there’d be at least a small reward for killing something higher level than yourself but instead there is actually EXP penalty.

I guess it’s to stop exploitation with bots or people power leveling or who knows what… but even so I was disappointed at this realization.

but there is none. If you can fight them easily (i guess they are flying type) then do it. They still give a little bit more exp per kill than lower level monsters.

For groups there is a separate penalty for level difference within a group to prevent powerleveling.

ToS most likely uses the Granado Espada (same developers) AR and DR system (attack rating and defense rating). Monsters have set AR/DR that you need to meet or beat with levels because AR/DR scales with level.

For example, Blue Spion Archers. For anyone 210 flat, their skill will probably 1HKO for 11k damage. But with the same gear and levels gained later (ie 220), the skill they use diminishes in damage by a significant amount.

Yeah I don’t think there is any advantage to killing something 6 levels AHEAD of you, it’s same exp as far as I can tell for monsters 6 levels behind.

just to clarify, in essence, always be fighting monsters +/- 4 levels your level to receive full experience?
