About automatic play strategies.. how do you guys feel about it?

I don’t know if this is something that has been discussed if so will someone link me to it (: if not let’s start, I feel is something serious that should be considered.

Putting it bluntly some poeple put something on their keyboard that let them auto attack while they were afk even if they was in-front of the pc the keyboard was grinding for them. I read something about using a rubber band was an effective way of doing it.

Anyways… how you guys feel about these types of thing? I think it strongly encourages people to make macro bots, “I see this person doing something and getting away with it, why wouldn’t i be able to do it. I got homework to do aswell so i’ll just let my toon level up on it’s own while i do my H.W if anyone talks to me i’ll reply so they won’t think i’m a bot”

Sooner or later a bot check will take place. Even though I dont have anything against this type of play I know for certain that once the need to use bot checks arrive those things will die out.

Just add some small changes to fix.
A lot of games (runescape and wakfu come to mind) put in anti-botting npcs, every once in a while you could get a chat log from a goddess or something, reading through the chatlog gives you a brief xp gain buff (say 20% bonus xp or something) while ignoring it gets you teleported to town.

wakfu has teh best bot check, botters will get stuck in it forever xD

Automatic play strategies… well, the game main attack feature is an automatic attack, so you can hardly call a person that keeps their finger on the attack button of the gamepad a bot.

A GM wouldn’t be able to know if that person’s in front of the computer “acting like a bot” because they’re multitasking doing something else while mindlessly grinding, or maybe, they just went to sleep and placed a heavy object on the attack button…

I personally don’t see a problem with it because that’s not really botting, once you reach higher levels a truly 100% safe zone that enables auto attack farming barely gives EXP, even after multiples hours of grind.
Also don’t forget the durability of the weapons and how they lose a lot of power when they break.

Does it matter if they are AFK farming? They are the ones who are losing a lot of gameplay. Why would one even want to make a game play for themselves? This is how I feel about so called P2W cash shop items too. If someone buys EXP boosts for cash, it’s their loss.

Auto attacks are weak as hell later on, especially all the archer ones people keep attempting to call “afk” farming. This doesn’t work later on, plain and simple.

On the kr server I found someone with r15 kneeling shot afk farming, it only shot in one direction - she fought mobs 5 levels below her - I came back after an hour and she was dead. This was lv 110 mobs… that didn’t even use player skills (which a heck of a ton of mobs do later on) and they easily stopped her from doing this because hp regen just doesn’t compensate for the amount of health lost afk farming.

What is the logic behind making an action game if no one is going to “play” it? Auto play does not belong here. Period.

I don’t rly care but they could just make something like “after x period of time you stop auto attacking without moving”

Ehh… rubberband.

So low tech.
There’s makros for keyboards and mouses, even built in ones.
Or simply activate the autoclick function.

But doing that screams to be banned by any active gm ^^.

So just don’t do it and report afk levler.

1% of the player base AFK farms == Everyone AFK farms…

I don’t use afk farm, and if it were up to me, I would remove the hold button to attack function all together.

If you afk farm in an area (by holding down one key with a battery or something), it’s inefficient and no one will care, at the late game when mobs all use skills, it can’t be done anyway.

If you bot in the same map, then the Grim Reaper boss will summon for a set period of time, and will probably kill you. That is this games anti-bot.

Note: I tested this with a group of people by cycling level 15 call of deities scrolls between each other, and essentially killing them immediately, so we took over the map, and the grim reaper boss always summoned after killing too many enemies in one map, it spawns right on top of you.

If you kill him, you get no drops, but if your a player and actually manage to kill him, you get some okay exp, bots will have trouble with him as he summons magic mobs so they can hit even full evasion bots.

If people are going to afk grind, I’d like to see a mechanic at your barracks that lets you send characters out for “missions” or go into a training room to beat on a training dummy or archery-butt while you’re away, something along those lines that’s mildly effective and clears the fields of afk grinders kill-stealing in areas.

Personally I’d like to see a way to get rid of them entirely, but that’s most likely never going to happen without some annoying captcha-esq interaction popup.

Edit: Tho @FatePGN makes a good point about higher-leveled areas.

Oh, that sounds good.

A bit like the self proclaimed anti-bot guild in late EuRo.
Spamming DB on afk Homuculi Alchemists who farm cards or the neverending botting of Phen and Tara Frog Cards.

I want to play this game more and more.
I will be a good time consumer for the waiting of another game and a nice comeback game for a few hours here and there.

But … Wolfsknight is going to steal developer ressources. Or it might mean that they’re finished with debugging?

No, I’m sure they have seperate developers working between both games as the KR test server is still constantly getting new things to test.

That’s good to hear.

Already cryed a bit … when i read that wolfknight announcment.
The Wolfknight games looks just like another WoW Clone.

I remember GE on the other hand was all about afk leveling lol. Glad they’re implementing some measures against it now.
