A watcher's question

I’ve been keeping a casual eye on this game for a while. Now that it is going into open beta one question this pet fiend has for it is this.

The companions. Are they unique, with in depth controls and develoupment while making 2 of the same pets different enough according to how the player trains, or finds, them?

I’m tired of games with ‘pets’ who are cut and paste cardboard cutouts. Same skills. Same stats. Different graphics. No ability to customize even 1 little bit.
Static builds so every “Hawk” at # level is exactly the same as every other Hawk at # level.

You buy pets from a NPC, i think hunter get a hawk for free, you don’t control them, except the hunter that use skills with the hawk.

You train their stats on the pet trainer (same NPC you use to buy them) and it cost silver, and the value increase each time you level the attributes.

Some classes (swordsman tree) mount on the pet and receive bonus from the pet stats.

Same skills only for the classes, pets itself don’t have skills, builds (stats) are up to the player, but i think you can max all of them, the question is the money required to do so, it will cost lots, you can share the pets with all your chars through the Lodge.

In resume, it is a pretty linear system, we can’t tame monsters to be pets either, if you want something different, but still linear, go with a summon class (Sorcerer or Necromancer) they use cards that drop from bosses (or boxes that drop from the bosses) and use basic skills, or you can mount on them (not sure about necromancer) and use their skills.

Change “Different graphics” to “Same graphics”, and you have ToS!

There are currently very few pet models, pets don’t have skills, and their stats are very similar. You can pay money to “train” your pet, but two people with infinite money would essentially have the same pet.

sigh

Well I will try it to see what I can manage between the pets and pet classes.
