A Sorcerer's Requiem: a cautionary tale of luck and misfortune

Let me tell you all of my rollercoaster of emotions…

This was my very first practo weapon.

It wasn’t the best, but it was good enough for my needs as a filthy casual. This isn’t the most recent stats on it since I also got a +39 magic attack awakening roll and brought it to +10 during the enhancement event. It was passable. I was content.

And then, just after the enhancement event ended, I managed to get my second practo. I crafted myself a Vienarazis Mace for my alt to use and began enhancing it. I had a really good streak of successes in a row. Excitedly, I tried it on my main a few times, swapping it with my Windia Rod, to see how the mace stats fared in comparison.

When I went back to enhancing, I didn’t realize that I had the wrong weapon selected. Having just come off the end of the enhance event where I had to relentlessly spam a clover every day, and knowing that my mace had almost full potential left, I didn’t think anything of it and clicked through the windows and warnings as quickly as possible… until it came up as a fail, with my Windia Rod looming overhead.

Two lv7 gems, 3 stages of transcendence, +10 enhancement, and a Practonium, lost forever to my carelessness.

Still recoiling from the loss of my main’s treasured weapon, I finished enhancing my mace to +10. I had even better success than my lost rod did. It was a bittersweet victory, but mostly it just made me salty.

But I’m a Sorcerer… so I couldn’t let myself settle for the Viena Mace. I had to make a new Windia Rod. I harvested the crafting materials and rebuilt my funds, and in a stroke of luck pulled my third ever practo within only three days of my loss. I crafted my reborn Windia Rod. I began enhancing with the leftover anvils from the enhancement event. I had a terrible streak of failures, but I knew I had a stockpile of gold anvils. Eager to finish this and move on with my life, I opened my sockets and began enhancing at 0 potential. After all of that…

Not so good.

By the end I’d burned through all my silver funds with barely anything left to support myself. But it was okay. I could enhance it over time as I picked up more anvils. The only thing I had left was to awaken it to satisfy my obsessive needs as a completionist—

Fun facts: even if you use a glowing awakening stone to eliminate the potential loss, you can’t awaken a 0 potential item. It won’t even let you place it in the window.

My salt had reached critical levels. I felt like I’d wasted my time, money, and limited Mystical Cubes on a second failure. I could never be satisfied with a weapon like this. I spent the next few days trying to get over it, using my new weapon and feeling the loss in damage and knowing that it’d never hold the same maximum power as my previous one… I may be a filthy casual, but I’m a filthy casual with standards, damnit. I couldn’t settle for this.

I resorted to desperate acts—I bought Leticia Cubes. 33 cubes later, I landed myself a Rocksodon box I traded for a fresh Practonium, along with a pile of other assorted items that I sold to restore my funds. I farmed new crafting materials. This time, I would do it right.

Maybe it’s more than just coincidence that a requiem is a type of song associated with death and mourning, and I’d now gone through two rods named Requiem with depressing results… so, I went all in on the superstition. I had a fresh name and new determination. I held back the urge to spam those anvils while my funds were still low, settling for a +7 at first and then gradually working my way up again. I did all my enhancing on the channel of my lucky number (5), using anvils bought in fives, and later on awakening attempts done five at a time.

Eventually, I forged myself a weapon that I could truly be satisfied with, a rod to break the curse that had plagued me.

So in the span of about a week, I…

  • obtained three Practoniums
  • crafted three weapons
  • destroyed one weapon (including two lv7 gems, stage 3 trans and enhancements)
  • spent more millions of silver than I want to count
  • wasted hours to Crystal Mines farming (and don’t even get me started on how many weeks I wasted farming blessed shards for those lost trans stages that I now have to farm again from scratch)
  • ended up with an extra Windia Rod that I’m not entirely sure what to do with

This has been both the luckiest and unluckiest week ever, depending on how you look at it…

Moral of the story: always put the damn lock on your prized possessions, especially if they’re at 0 potential and could break at a moment’s notice.

don’t be stupid and careless or you’ll end up like me : I

shouldnt be so careless, im sure you taught yourself a good lesson here

The painful life of an RPG player XD. Love the way you name your weapons BTW.

should go for +11 :smiling_imp:

you can always rob yourself of your precious valuables due to carelessness…

to put it in a different perspective:
"carelessness forced me to rob myself of my precious stuff…"
or
"i locked my stuff so that i wouldn’t rob them from myself…"

happens to everyone, unfortunately…

tich mi haw to git 3 practos in one wik senpai-sensei-chan

I think I’d have a heartattack if I even tried… :anguished:

If they’re gonna let me name my gear then I’m sure as hell going to spend an hour deliberating over a dumb 10-character name every time I have to make something. Thanks!

of cors kouhai-chan, n e thin 4 u

pray to rngsus every night before opening ur cubes, and always roast your gems at the shop to the right of the klaipeda storage in ch3. only then can you achieve maximum practo.

or y’know just level like five characters to 317 and roll five cubes at once every day, that sure helps soothe the rng woes.

me du wat u asking bat st1ll n0thing

sind halp pls

pS: Send ritual instructions and I’ll do the rest

i don’t even know if this was you but i laughed really hard anyway

step 1: go to channel 6 and buy 666 firewood from the item merchant.
step 2: use an orb dyed red with the blood of monsters to kill a bot before the goddess statue of tenet church.
step 3: burn their corpse in your bonfire as you utter the ancient latin incantation of lorem ipsum.
step 4: once the dark god of rng accepts your sacrifice by absorbing their dropped gems into the void, open your mystical cube to instantly get 3 practoniums at once.

if it doesn’t work, keep doing it until the dark god of rng is satisfied with your acts of bloodshed.

Wait, before you click enhance, don’t you see your weapon in that little box? And wouldn’t there be 2 pop up screens asking for confirmation beforehand?

Too unfortunate :frowning:

Yes.

I’m a fast clicker when I’m impatient : (
