Kid Icarus Uprising is a shooter :U
The RPG elements would be wweapos fusing for stronger weapons and placing powers in a grid thingy, like the attache case on RE4 I guess.
Do check it out, it’s fun but do play it in short sessions.
The guys here have mentioned just about everything important, Codename STEAM is a fun lil’ game too.
Someone mentioned the HUmble Bundle, which has Rythm Thief which is a FANTASTIC rythm game for that matter, really fun, check the demo at least.
SMTIV too, because RPGs, the world map is a ■■■■■■■ pain in the arse though.
just gonna say it now,
I find it’s a game that people love or hate.
Now having said that people hate it. also means people are selling it with hardly touching it. Dunno if you can find a second hand copy but i bought one for a friend for $10 and he’s enjoyin it :P.

If you are thinking about buying a Monster Hunter wait till the new comes out, MHX/Monster Hunter Generations. It looks amazing

Animal Crossing is a simulator, and Fire Emblem games are tactical RPGs. They are my best buys for 3DS, I really recommend them, really worth the money

Gonna have to recommend Etrian Odyssey to you as well.
It’s a good series of dungeon-crawler games that are challenging (Untold 1&2 are not as challenging as earlier titles imo, but still quite so). You draw the dungeon’s maps yourself, so it kindof gives abit more of an immersion effect. The music is pretty good too.
And having another person in the world that hates Petaloids is always good!

I’d really like to recommend Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward not only to you, but to everyone!
The main issue here would be that VLR is a sequel from the DS game Zero Escape: 999 (9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors), but you still can play without it (although you’re going to lose some major references).
The third part of the trilogy, Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma, is coming out this June! I just can’t wait <3

Obviously the best 3DS game of all is Professor Layton Vs Phoenix Wright. I love that game more than any other 3ds game! Never played either series before but the game itself is just greaaaat!
