2handed Spear user, which build is best?

So, I’m building a 2hd spear user, I have started with swordsman c3 just taking the buff skils (gung ho 15, pain barrier 15, restrain 10 and 5 in concentration) more because the first other circles options seems unuseful than any other reason. Now I’m in the circle 1 of cata. In a first moment I thought about doing the classical sw3 cata3 goon3, but now I’m in doubt if this really is the best choice.

My objcetive is to build the best dps class as possible with a good perfomance in pve.

I know that exist other circles that are intended to be spear users (like Lancer, hoplite…), but I know hoplite to be an 1 hd/shield user…

  1. Lancer goes in the same direction?

  2. Is Dragoon the best way to go after 3 circles of cata?

  3. Should I pick other class instead of cata?

Already messed up skillset, 5 in concentration doesn’t do much and it sounds like you skipped Double Slash, the best swordsman skill. As for your questions:

  • Lancer is a 2h-spear class, but it’s mostly for pvp or maybe bossing.
  • Lancer synergizes better with cata, but Dragoon is better for pve.
  • I would say Hoplite. It works well with 2h-spears too, even though it’s better with 1h-spear builds.

Cata3Goon3 can work, I think Hop3 has more damage though and Finestra is a solid buff.

And double slash can be used with 2hd spear?

Yes, it can with any weapon, No restrictions

Sadly i don’t think you can do very well with sw3 cata3 lancer2, i have this build and invested a lot into the character to make it useful for CM but the sad truth it’s that dragoon can do better with less investment, long story short, lancer it’s good for pvp/bossing and dragoon can do well in almost everything as far as i know, i have seen some s3 cata3 goon3 tho, guess they are some sort of pvp build cause as far as popular builds go, hoplite seems to be the “best” option.

Honestlly 99% of the time i feel like giving up on lancer in favor of dragoon, but for some reason i just want to keep going as a lancer.

FYI, I remember there was a glitch that drops your FPS when you use 2-H spear on cataphract when you stay in a map for too long, really inconvenient for grinding/questing. Not sure if they fixed it or not.

Anyways, if you want DPS, I would say sword-pelt-hop3-doppel-dragoon3, with 1-H spear. If you want a more defensive playstyle, sword3-cata3-dragoon-lancer2. Cata3 imo is underwhelming at DPS, but most of its skills have the ability to knock down/stun, and cata3 has high mobility. I personally think cata should be a blue circle (defensive oriented).

This is a misconception of most players associating “red class” color to DPS/damage potential. Red color implies that the class is offensive in essence and not in DPS/damage potential alone. Technically and logically, cataphract is a red class that specializes in knockdown offensives despite having mediocre damage.

Oh I’m well aware the classes color codes are not all accurate XD
I’m just saying personally, as in if I were to judge.
