This is so true. I was watching a gameplay vid at school last month and sb took interest in what I was watching. I told them about the game briefly and the first thing they said was “Wait so it’s for PC? It looks more like a mobile game”.
Most players always be impressed by RPGs with flashy action combat and superior 3D graphic.
They overhype until the game come out, when they found out its gameplay wasn’t really good, they lead their attention to next overhype 3d RPG, the cycle keep repeat.
Blade & Soul and Lost ark are great examples. There are a lot of people who are waiting for LA, they overhype it although they haven’t see any actually gameplay video from it, I personally don’t like the “extremely show-off” skill visual effect from that game.
After B&S, Black desert is their next target.
That’s the reason I don’t put much stock in graphics anymore, especially with Korean games. The graphics do matter to me, but so does the gameplay. In Aion, the graphics were SO pretty but the gameplay was just grindy and frustrating as all hell with the open PvP. ArcheAge was also way overhyped and I was utterly disappointed on how it turned out.

Exactly how I felt when playing Aion, high five
I believe peoples does not like a game before they try because the game in
question does not have stupid effects or unrealistic gameplay trailers.
yeah right, AION is grindy and TOS isn’t ?
people hate TOS because of brainless fanboi like you.
Grindy is fine as long as you could play your favorite build/classes, aion focus to pvp, so classes must be balance for pvp, it made the class system feel so mediocre and boring to grind.
Grinding while being camp/gank by high lvl players or zerg made it extremely frustrating to play.
btw stop calling anyone who support ToS is fanboy
preferring one over the other doesn’t make you a fanboy. they are different, thus different people prefer different game. You are fanboy when you saying that your preferred game is the best in any way.
I loved AION i liked how the PvP and PvE were blended together but sadly the population was not very strong and it got real bad when it went F2P
I couldn’t grind in Aion because I was being ganked 24/7 so I couldn’t progress. I don’t need to be constantly looking over my shoulder in ToS. I dislike PvP because people are so ruthless and sore about it that it takes away any fun.

Some players may leave because of it and some players may be attracted. I am in the second group.
Once again as has been said many times on the forums, mmos don’t try to unnecessarily divide there populations and usually only open server out of necessity due to population. Things like diablo can do that because you can only play with 4 people anyway in the first place and the server is more like a lobby.

[quote=“arandomamerican, post:34, topic:133864, full:true”] this game would function just fine with a hardcore mode… all YOU have to do is imagine scenarios that are hard but within reach if you play the game methodical.

PoE is a hack and slash RPG which you mostly solo and handle everything by yourself. You could easily reach lvl 80+ in one week then start farming gears with RNG, you can even increase item quality/quantity with magic find.
Tree of Savior in another hand is a MMORPG which focus to role play in party and social, It need a big community, it have no end-game, you keep progress.
Imagine you and your friend reach lvl 300+ but then your friend die once and his character transfer to normal server (or he lose all his gears.) so your friend got mad and stop playing (or keep playing on normal server), meanwhile you are alone and you have trouble finding group for high lvl contents because very few people reach this level.
I wouldn’t bother with this guy he made 3 posts in a row to me instead of just editing his first one to expand it. And if he thinks a hardcore server and dividing the games population is a good idea then hes already to far gone to save.
