Maybe because I’m used to I found it frustrating?
It seems like:“oh no, another one”.

One of the unpleasant episode was here in TOS:
I used farming with WL2 for max 1hr at Dina Bee (no, I wasn’t a bot, I farm max 1hr).
A Necro’s friend (Warlock) comes and made it all disappear all my sphere.
I asked him why, he ignore me and continued to disappear all my sphere.
After some minutes that I was trying to comunicate with him and explained him that I will stay for another 10 minutes, his answer was:“I no english”.
And I’ve encountered episodes like this (not when I was farming with Warlock), but in general in games.

And my kind proposal for you if you want to talk foreigners:
Learn top10 MMO phrases in all EU languages. It is pretty simple.

If you’re already used to something, then you won’t mind it nor does it affect you.
If you’re not, then yes you will get affected by it and it will illicit a reaction from you.

Crazy examples:
“I’m used to getting punched in the nuts by my friends as a greeting.” - Full acceptance, this is his reality.
“I’m annoyed that my friends punch me in the nuts as a greeting.” - Impartial acceptance, this is not okay for him but he’s keeping his friends anyway.

I’m not even arguing semantics with the guy, I’m just saying he probably hasn’t accepted it fully as [the reality] of online gaming (especially ones that are available to multiple countries/languages/ethnicity/race).

You’ll get used to it… eventually. Otherwise you’ll keep getting affected by the small percentage of users that clearly couldn’t give a f*ck about the negative experience others might get from their actions.

Completely wrong, I can be used to something but still get irritated every now and then. This isn’t even debatable.

I think they just chose the wrong words… Rather than being used to it in the “I accepted it” way, they resigned themselves, they know it’s inevitable to meet them, but from time to time they still get tired of it.

To be honest, that’s one of the reasons why I play in NA, not in EU, even if I live in Europe and English isn’t even my main language~
I can manage enough to understand/communicate in several languages, and I don’t mind if someone doesn’t speak English that well, but after a while I just get tired of people wanting me to be a translator or them making zero effort.
I feel like some actually use the language barrier to be unpleasant/unsociable, and do whatever they want. Because after playing games in English for a while, you pick up a few sentences/meanings (that’s how I mainly learnt English), yet they still won’t listen if you tell them “Don’t do that”, “Wait”, “Not there” or other simple things like that.

I certainly agree with your sentiment, core reason I play on NA for this game. With servers located on the East Coast and a preference to English, its the way forward. EU servers will always have French, German, Russian, Polish, Romanian, Turkish and Greek language thrown left and right and unless you understand a greater portion of that stuff, it’ll just feel like you’re an alien. And sometimes its done with that on purpose(which I’m familiar enough with when fellow Scandinavians decides to speak in our language, spite English being commonplace here and taught in schools).

Depending on investment/connections tho on the EU server, if you feel the environment being uncomfortable enough, you could always re-roll on the NA servers. Lag is a non-issue and Brazilians aren’t remotely as problematic as the Americans like to paint them.

I guess thats more a eu probelm.
Germans/French normaly used to have servers in german/france.

Like with Ro before.
There are some int guilds but most guild are German or France.
My guild in ro turns from a German to an int guild and still we have to use more channels in woe beause some ppl dont want to speak in eng in woe time…

Im sure thats a reason why the eu server is so empty becuase of the language.

While in some EU countries English is a mandatory subject in school, in other EU countries it’s not. And some people quit school before having aquired a decent knowledge of the English language. So not everyone you encounter has ever learned English (enough) in school in order to properly communicate with English speaking players.

Using google translator is a possibility, however when you are doing an dungeon/instance run tabbing out of the game, typing something in google translator and copying it back might take too long for many people.

However, all that being said, while all that excuses them not being able to communicate with you, it does not excuse their, in some cases, bad behavior.

Languages are the window to knowledge, but not the source of it…

the more languages you know the more knowledge you can acquire, so I try to keep a neutral standing and understand as much as I can

Even when English is a mandatory subject, some countries/schools just have really bad educational system about foreign languages.

In my case, I had to learn English here, playing online. Because my school didn’t teach me anything useful to communicate with a real person and English Schools were too expensive.

But I agree, there is no excuse to bad behavior and in some cases, not being able to communicate with other players in English when most of the things you have to say (dungeons and so) are “hi”, “here”, “heal”, “gg”, “learn2play n00b” and things like that…

I’m sorry if what I wrote is not clear for everyone…

English isn’t my main language, sometimes I have to use Google Translator when I can’t write some senteces…
My school didn’t teach me properly English, I know it a little bit thanks to games.

I’m glad that there are people who understand how I feel.

This topic wasn’t for flame, I want to know your experience and what do you think, nothing more :3

Well… I’m brazilian and I DON’T play in Silute server because most players are… uhn… obnoxious, to say the least… I very much prefer Fedimian or Klaipeda. :confused:

Or maybe I’m so tired of the constant chaos in this country that I want some ‘distance’ when I’m playing… :neutral_face:

I really don’t care, was born in Canada, speak french, english, then moved to Argentina at a very young age, so I consider spanish my native language, with tos learned some little portuguese. The only thing that bothers me, is people from NA thinking spanish and portuguese are the same thing, no, they’re not. Sadly, english became necessary, porque si escribiese en castellano nadie me entendería un carajo aca, jajajaja

In a perfect world the receiver knows as many languages as the communicator, but this isn’t a perfect world

i barely speak english but everyone can read english, playing on klaipedia to improve english .
