[Resolved] How to temporarily prevent crashes from Hook64 exploit

Hacks exist in every game, like bots.
Isn’t IMC fault.
They should monitor that hack and at least make a temporary solution like @LunarRabbit did.

Hook exist since release and a lot of people abused it.
Yesterday when my game freezes and I saw 7 whisper, I understood immediately that was an hack.

Fortunately Rabbit intervened immediately and we can play thanks to his addon.

Not really? There’s just that guy speed hacking if i recall, but that stuff gets your account perma banned. Same with all the hacks that can be still used, they are so obvious that you are trashing your account in the bin.

there also then one i remember where they were selling lots of blessed gems also around the new year, IMC deleted the post.

that thing got disabled instantly and they took action.

Also, just to make it clear:
I tried to help and do what I could fast. It wasn’t a good fix (really) and worked only temporarily and then those guys started to spam more messages instead of sending a single one and then switched to group chats later.

It definitely could’ve been done like as a way better solution from someone more experienced.

I tried to check chat message drawing before but I never looked into those before so I couldn’t do much more than trying to prevent some crashes (which stopped working later) and also couldn’t test it much before IMC actually started to work on it. >_<

i had no problems with my fix, as it resets to “off” all of my chat prefs on every loading/map change.

Ehy, when I tried your addon I could login.

Now I can play without any issue thank IMC too.

You were fast enough to let us login and play a little bit <3

Still, why can we write commands and use external lua in the game?

Sometimes I wonder what really goes into the minds of people who think that it is okay for them to exploit/use a said bug or loophole in a software/game just because it exists and isn’t fixed.

It is akin to saying it is perfectly okay to enter another person’s house because the window isn’t shut. Or it is alright to make and sell lock picks as the maker isn’t the one doing the deed with them. Really?

I’m open minded and i’m not against the use of some game flaws which are part of the game if they are small and everyone knows them, also if no one is being hurt by it. But, when you use some game flaws to affect other players or be extremely rich when others clearly can’t do the same, that’s a perma ban reason imo and could be jail reason if you are attacking a product and a company economy, like in THIS case. The people who made this hack or whatever it is, in my opinion, should be in jail. Forget about the game experience of players, they are screwing people’s work and lives. Behind the “big company” there are also workers who depend on the success of the product and it’s being affected by these terrorists.

So in your opinion typing words into chat is equal to jail time? Gotcha.

It is more of the intent behind it. Technically there isn’t anything wrong with typing words into chat.

But if the intent of the action (in this case here, typing words into chat) is out to cause disruption of services (prevent players from playing the game), then it is malicious in nature. Which in this case, yes the hook software has clearly stated the use of this “action” is to cause disruption.

It doesn’t matter what the intent is. You’re using game features in an unintended way. but they’re still in-game features. Earlier in 2017 I released 2 in-game commands created by IMC that crashed the server,… by your logic it would be illegal to use those commands even though they were put there by IMC themselves.

This is like saying “Selling something to ppl is equal to jail?” but keeping back that drugs are the goods being sold.

yawn

You need to report any game errors, bugs and other game play issues to IMC Games. You shall not abuse them for your own benefits nor to cause grievances to others, and pass this information to others who may abuse them for their benefits.

Oh so you want to quote the EULA…

According to the EULA simply viewing this website or playing the game is breaking the EULA.

The intent does matter though. Online games/software are provided as a service, and services are bound to what the provider intended their users to use. Features that aren’t intended for the users they are masked or kept hidden away.

This is why for standard users/players, those said commands can’t be accessed without external means, in the form of an add-on or an external program. If it isn’t intended by the service provider (in this case IMC), it can’t be said as a game feature.

Now the delinquent kid wants to twist the meaning of words to justify his actions.

:haha:

As a dev you must know that unintended features, bugs and exploits aren’t intentional.

The use of X command to break the game isn’t a feature. It’s something used elsewhere and not intended for the end user. It’s a bad design, yeah.

Using the X command with the intention of crashing someone falls under game rules violation.

You seems to have made a fan game which also have rules:

You’re banning users for using a “feature” of the game yourself developed. And I’m sure you’re not going to ask the player why is he doing that before the bans, right?

Please, stop embarrassing yourself.
