Pyromancer + Linker?

Hey there, I’m waiting on a beta key at the moment, but from my studies, I’ve decided that I’m going Wizard 1 + Pyro 3 + Linker 2.

I just wanted to ask if Linking and AoEs work as I’d think they would.

If you have 4 linked enemies and hit them all in the same AoE, does that effectively quadruple the damage? Or do AoEs not spread like single-target abilities do with Link?

No the enemies would not take quadruple damage that would be way too over powered. Instead it just manipulates the damage being dealt to all linked targets once. Linker is still a very good choice for AoE,

He probably didn’t read the word “Share Damage” from the skill description.

Technically, he is right about quadruple damage. Since hes asking if the aoe hits the enemy 1 time, and theres 4 of them, Each of them should also receive damage from the other 3 getting hit, so each of them getting hit like 4 times for that 1 aoe right?

He is asking if it works like that.

Original post also has video evidence. I want to say that if a single attack/hit damages more than two linked enemies, it will spread double that multi-hit but no more.

I don’t think that was his initial question, but you bring up an interesting point.
I wonder if there are the additional hits to enable other buffs, blessing from Priest?

4 things all sharing the same attack with one another would amplify the damage 3 more times, thus quadrupling it.

As a Pyro 2 Linker 1, If, for example, 2 linked monsters are standing on Flame Ground, they both take 2 hits per tic from Flame Ground. However, if there are 3, the number oh hits per tic is also 2. Same for 5 linked monsters. So it does multiply but 2 times is the max. Still really good. Idk about how the inner formula works, but the 2 damage numbers on the same monster are identical as far as ive seen.

I can attest to that. Did a 4 linked Tontus to farm geometry staff. 4 linked enemies. 8 numbers pop up when I use earthquake on 4 of them. It’s the original hit+AOE. So it did 2x dmg. From there I also noticed that earthquake breaks link due to lifting the mobs too high up. It won’t break the joint penalty link if the target is similar to Tontus that’s stuck on the ground.
