They also earn like $75M every month. So they could just be like:
Blizzard: "Wanna work as forum moderator?"
Guy: "With all the hate on forums? No way."
Blizzard: "We pay you $4000 a month."
Guy: “I’m in.”
You have a fair point, however a charismatic community manager can do a good job. People loved Julie awhile back, Julie is gone (apparently quit?) Who knows why she quit but if you go read her post history she seemed to be charismatic and loved by the community here. She was very active, responsive and I feel like that kind of communication and personal attention goes a long way.
Now everything is just silent after she quit. She quit, they hired a new guy and now they barely say anything here beyond robotic replies. I bet they were giving Julie sh*t because she was talking to people too much here or something who knows. No one knows…
Hey they could totally hire me to help assist with forum moderation. I get ranty on some of my posts but I used to be a teacher. I would totally give up a couple of hours a day for some TP each week… I’m surprised they haven’t asked for some forum posters to help with the community yet with as many repeat questions as we get. I’ve seen it done in other games, voted/voluntold active community people set up as “helpers.” I’d think it’d help alleviate some of the stress here too since our Staff seems to be on a sleep cycle that’s not exactly helpful to responding quickly.
I once worked for a publisher myself and honestly the problem is that generally you’re not allowed to say anything and you get in trouble if you do. I said a bit too much myself because I really thought telling the players what’s going on will calm them down, but the opposite happened, they just raged even more, so eventually I decided that’s the higher ups were right and it’s best not to tell anything other than final decisions.
We already tried that. A psychopath hijacked the idea and ruined it.
I didn’t mean to imply that the community manager comes on these forums and reveals everything going on at the company lol. That’s just suicide who would do that? But there are things you can say, even if it’s just replying to posts to keep things “positive”.
Like if a staff member replied to one of these picture threads with a photo of a cute picture too like a kitten, even little things like that makes the players feel that IMC doesn’t hate them lol.
The only important things you have to worry about is:
- Not to post anything about your “opinions” unless it’s to sympathize with people over a tragedy. Like that gay club shooting incident, if IMC said anything about their condolences and showed they cared about it, it would have been a good PR move.
- Avoid confrontation and don’t let yourself get trolled by the players.
- Reply to threads asking questions with a more personal touch.
- Pin posts to the top of the forums to answer common questions such as, “When will the servers open back up.” Even if the answer is, “We don’t know yet” it’s still better than saying nothing.
Silence isn’t bliss.
When GMs replied with picture, they would be flamed for not being serious enough.
When GMs replied with “we are working on it”, soon it will become a running gag for all the flamers.
When GMs replied with “we read this issue, but think other issues are more important for now”, people that want this particular thing will get angry.
Sometimes though, I find that silence is a bliss. To the whiners and haters, any reply that isn’t what “they want to hear” is automatically deemed as “The devs don’t care about us”. These players will then attempt to read really deep into the lines of comments the developers post out an reinterpret it as something completely different from the intend the developers put forth.
IMC’s reply to the reset issue a couple of weeks ago is a good example of this.
I’m a slightly new player and my perception about these forums is that when a post is the truth and people don’t know how to constructively respond against it, they always call it bait thinking it automatically wins them the argument. Calling any post bait or posting a bait picture is basically that person who posted the picture saying ‘‘I have no argument and you are 100% right’’
When other people see the bait picture they are so stupid they don’t realize that by someone posting that picture their mind automatically switches to ‘‘This is a troll post’’ mode and their brain short circuits. That’s because they are too stupid to realize they are being manipulated by bait pictures and visual cues like a child or a flock of sheep.
he is still just botting ingame with hes low level characters, all he does is watching forums with hes ■■■■ in hand.
I’m sorry, but that is related to the topic how?
