Necromancer feedback: Shoggoth

Hey guys, posting here because it says items equipment and pets, and the shoggoth is certainly a pet. Some of the requested changes can be perceived as buff requests, but really I’m just asking for a return on my investment. So before I begin, let’s talk about the exact investment we are talking about here when a necromancer casts create shoggoth

  • 240 second cooldown (4 minutes)

  • 30 corpses - that’s 30 monsters last hit with gather corpse, or the entirety of a 500 silver potion

  • Rank 6 necromancer skill points

  • 55 boss cards for the 10 star necronomicon entry

So there you have it. This skill requires possibly the most investment to cast of any skill in the game. Rank 6, 4 minute cooldown, corpses, 55 boss cards. You are making a serious committment when you make the decision to create a shoggoth. All of that is fine. I’m not asking for any of that to be changed. However, my main complaint is how easy it is to lose all of that effort. You invested all of those resources into creating a powerful shoggoth, and need to change channels for some reason? Shoggoth gone. Backspace to turn in quest? Shoggoth gone. Change zones, enter a dungeon? Shoggoth gone. Decide to move on while shoggoth is engaged in combat? For all intents and purposes, the shoggoth is gone. The worst part is, it is impossible to tell if he’s “gone gone” or just waiting for you to come find him. There’s no map indication of where he is, no UI indication of whether or not he’s still summoned or how much hp he has.

I think that making it easier to keep track of your shoggoth would be a huge QoL boost for necros. If we’re in a dream world and I also get to ask for buffs, I’d ask for just a couple things:

  • Faster attack speed

  • Significantly faster attack animation

  • Make the breath attack a multihit - not excessive, only 3-5. Really make it feel different from the tentacle poke.

I’m not asking to be godly like sorcerer card summon. I just would like to be suitably rewarded for investing my time and energy in creating a shoggoth. Thanks for reading.

TL:DR

  • Make it easier to keep your shoggoth with you - have him change channels and zones with you, and follow when you warp.

  • Make it easier to keep track of your shoggoth - UI component, map display of location

  • Straight up buff him. He attacks way to slow, with the longest attack animation of all time. Breath attack indistinguishable from tentacle attack. Give him faster attack speed, significantly faster attack animation and make the breath attack a multihit.

I want IMC to change the appearance of shogoth base on their card type. Not like sorcerers. Its like 3 appearance. It will change its look if its an animal, plant or mutant type card.

I also agree with all of your suggestions.

Some quality of life improvements would be nice. Especially targeting and movement speed (I used a token and with the +3 movement speed you can easily outrun him, if you don’t pay attention).

His first attack on monsters generally misses 90% of all times and his greed for tree crystals is adorable

However in combination with one or more archers in your group he is absolutely devastating! With his decay attribute you can keep up a hefty +100% missile damage on all monsters (except flying ones ) for 5 minutes and he has 4 minutes cooldown. So I don’t think a damage buff is that necessary for him.

I am a cryo 3 psycho 1 necro 1 (aiming for necro 2) and that frost tree is very nice for the shoggoth and his cone attack (and brutal if you aim a flesh cannon at its center too).

I only put one point in shoggoth so far and he is my strongest spell because of his decay buff (I’m playing together with my girlfriend and she is archer ). Except flying monsters! And he is a freaking tentacle monster!

Oh man, I’m still working on thauma attributes, but when I finally can afford to start buying necro ones, shoggoth decay is my #1 priority. It’s such a strong debuff

Your gf should already have the double damage vs flying attribute trained =P Tell her to put on a bow!

She knows and there is an attribute for Flesh Cannon so that it can apply decay too, so flying monsters are no problem at all

By the way decay debuffs from Flesh Cannon and Shoggoth can be applied both at the same time (I’m not sure about Dirty Pole, didn’t see a reason to invest skill points into it). They have different debuff icons but do the same as far as I know. The effect does NOT stack though. There is no 200% more damage for missiles.

Without knowing we got a very good classcombo. She got a rank Falconer so our standart aoe combo looks something like that: Frost Pillar > Circling > Flesh Cannon > 3x Barrage + 2x Bouncing Shot
Its pretty devastating

I hopen IMC can see this. :confounded: I really love my Shoggoth so whenever I do some quests and he is summoned, I tend to walk back to the NPC just so he’s not left alone :’(

shogoth attribute is 100 damage, so not important. the decay attribute is 40-50k, nothing. summoning the shogoth is 500 silver, again, like nothing. If you find that “expensive” well, you can’t play the game, attributes for damage skills are expensive for that 100% damage plus, not spending some 500, 250 or 50 silver for a skill, you will spend more in repairs and pots than necromancer skills and that’s small money.

Cards is other thing, i find card farming difficult for the two summoner classes. But isn’t impossible and the game is meant to be hard, or either boring like wow.

My problem with shogoth is it’s damage. I think it should be AOE high or two times stronger, temple shooter for example is both and has skills that deal real damage unlike the shogoth.

But if this summons is strong, the skeletons are strong, you have the temple shooter by chance and already doing insane damage with flesh canon every 20 secs, well, start to being OP, maybe that’s the thing IMC see.

This post is nice, but I’d like to bump it and refer to the other thread about necro’s needing love, because that thread covers this, and more.

For all the others in the thread. Necro is sub par circle 7 compared to the cookie cutters. If you think otherwise, look at the base data. Instant cast vs 1 3 second cast time skill. 2-3x the DPS vs potentially throwing silver at mobs to do damage, WITH added SP cost and cool down. Corpses count, 300 WHICH IS FINITE. IMC 100% can’t see this as OP as they have made it impossible to sustain.

does shoggoth consume mana though?

@zweig069

Outside the initial cast, no, it does not.

Though initially I thought the same way with Dirty Pole, if you are a linker you can link enemies to it and pull them to it, also on bosses if said boss stays right on top or really, really close to the Dirty Pole, you can link it and Flesh Cannon for x2 the damage.
