There is no real issue with knockback after the revamp of Golden Bell Shield, though. You have like 8-9 seconds CD and 2 seconds damage+knockdown/knockback protection afaik, and as an alternative, you can always get a Staring Golem (or whatever the name was) card to trigger Pain Barrier level 1 with an up to 8% chance on getting hit.
Most knockbacks/knockdowns can also be dodged, so having a higher evasion rate decreases the chance of being affected in the first place.
The golden bell shield rework is not coming yet tho… after they have talked about it several times…
so sad…
Isn’t GBS channeled?
Then why would anyone go circle3 in anything? There is a reason why meta builds arent just circle1 in everything for that rank.
also a thing is, not only physical mobs get knockback now (hello 290dungeon mages im looking at you). It also restrains people from taking any stat other than DEX for the evasion. With the revamp on stats coming in the future, we are hoping that other stats like STR to find its use as well.
yup, but that isn’t a problem if you know that a knockback attack is coming, right? Just channel and you’re immune to that knockback.
My point is “you stop what you’re doing” regardless. Take the hit? You stop doing damage. Channel GBS? You stop doing damage. If your connection is good enough that you can time your GBS, you may as well just jump.
I tried a high Dex monk so i could dodge more. It helped some with the being knocked down but without Str my damage went straight into the toilet, and that was with Vienarazis Mace at stage 4. Gazing Golem is the Card you are talking about. 8% chance to get pain barrier is pretty lousy compared to 80% more damage.
Its hard to know when an attack is coming with these new bosses. They don’t have slow moves with huge telegraphs like say Grey Golem does. There’s a quick tell via animation and voom its out. If you weren’t already moving out of the way you can’t dodge it, and even then you are probably still getting hit. Couple that with Double Punch rooting you in place for a time and you’re definitely getting hit.
I am not sure what low damage you are talking about.
I have been playing monks since launch. and have like 3 at 300+ right now (one is my main and 330).
i have had few different stat distributions. 50 con and rest Dex seems most damage output with ANY weapon that gives more then 300 attack.
My double punch hits about 12k with NO BUFFS and no debuffs. and with the buffs/debuffs I have pushed it over 100k crits a hit. that is stage 5 Vinezaris mace at +8…
I am not sure what you are talking about with that STR thing…
That’s why I precise “at the moment”, this isn’t a good thing and I’m counting on their rework with the damage formulas, especially for earlier ranks.
There is also an interest in going multiple circle because of new spells, buffs, attributes and so on. Damage isn’t everything, even if everyone seeks damage and even supports are DDs in this game.
The game isn’t well thought at all anyway, just look the difference between R3 classes, like barbarian and bokor, one is worth taking to C3, the other barely.
I’d really like them to add attributes to c1 skills at c2 and at c3 so the progression becomes real. until they rework the formula there’s little to gain in lower ranks from taking a skill from lv 1 to lv 15. the only exceptions are those that increase duration or increase something else. for those that increase only damage there’s no point between lv 1 to lv 15 with the current damage formula and non scaling nature we currently have.
Atleast with attribute you’d get a behaviour extension to your skill. There’s very few classes that do have something other than just skills to actually consider taking to c3.
Sorry for derailing for a bit.
The problem with monks is that from the point you get it (that is R5), you expect to PUNCH THING and that is just what you do. But the moment you reach R8 you suddenly NOT PUNCH THING because it is just not useful anymore (except for some Wheel DPing Inq that sacrifices a lot just to use DP effectively). Not the debuff, not the cc, not filler damage, no nothing.
It’s just that (1) R8 is their own class and doesn’t take two shits from the preceeding ranks (2) R8 is too stronk to not use, and the preceeding ranks are too weak to use.
Inquisitor and Taoist both have long cooldowns so this argument is very irrelevant. If you go monk 3 inquis basically you Hand Knife-> MM-> OIP->Palm Strike-> Breaking wheel-> God Finger Flick-> Godsmash 3-> Spam Double Punch until your cooldowns are back again. And this all takes about 10 seconds since monk has great animations compared to other melee classes (looking at you paladin).
Even before the Monk buff, Monk itself is good to solo PvE contents (except mandatory party like ET) up to Practonium quest and my problem did not truly solved after the buff… Pretty sure you can’t chain Hand Knife-> MM-> OIP->Palm Strike-> Breaking wheel-> God Finger Flick-> Godsmash 3-> Double Punch in PvP aspect, you just get weaker Ausrine with GBS (I’m talking post-buff)
Things that fixed/buff Monk from RO is ability to use CC/status effect (and no, knockback does not work). Not as good as Wizard’s Freeze/Stone Curse or Cryo/Kino for ToS wise but good enough to make enemies cannot move and avoid Monk’s combo. Even major Cleric class do not have them to make synergy, One spotted on Druid and you really can’t fit Druid in Monk C3…
You just trade 10% damage for Gazing Golem, since the card is +1% chance on Pain Barrier on hit per card equipped, no matter which card is equipped.
So you could equip 7 Ellaganos cards or 7 Glass Mole cards or 7 whatever cards +1 Gazing Golem card to have 8% chance on Pain Barrier.
That’s not a bad deal I believe…
Its per Gazing golem cards equipped: 1 Gazing golem = 1% chance, 8 Gazing golem = 8% chance.
The combe should be:
Maleus - breaking wheel - palm strike - oip - hand knife - finger flick - 3x god smash - double punches.
Since wheel spreads palm strike bleed and oip bleed, this makes for a lot more damage, also armor break spreads too.
I have not had ANY issues leveling solo to 330 through quests, since day one of rank 8 on my monk…
i now dont even bother casting wheel if i am 1 on 1 with mob, since i got stage 5 vinexaris mace and 80% double punch…
In pvp monk 3 is sub par i agree, but you can not be good at everything… With just one character.
Another point, you can not expect most characters to perform without investing in attributes. Attributes are there as a mechanic and shpuld be embraced
I saw noticeable drop in damage when i stat reset from STR to DEX. Even my guildies pointed it out. I have since gone back to STR. I just tested my damage on 308 monster with cloth armor. I was doing 11-15k non crits and 19-25k when I crit. That’s with my stage 5 Vinezaris mace at +5. 2 lvl 7 green gems.
it narrows down to same ol’ Str vs Dex debate, which has been long settled.
What is your crit rate with full Str? because with Full Dex i have no issue getting it to 640. and all my gear is focused on increasing damage, over crit rate (except for sissels)
