As long as you include Peltasta 1 in your build, carry a shield and some dispeller/barrier scrolls, you can somewhat tank.
Full tank builds usually start with Peltasta 2 or 3 and either go Rodelero 2 Fencer 2 or Squire for the utility

that clears it, currently you can look into some guides posted in the swordsman section by Cathexis/Autentist. I’ll do a quick explanation to give you an idea.
Sword>pel>pel>rodel>rodel>fencer>fencer
^ very good physical tank with 10 second magic immunity from rodelero’s slithering. A good physical tank mainly because you can block, you have a good amount of defense while blocking AND having evasion.
sword>pel>pel>pel>squire>squire>squire
not an expert here but mainly you go hardcore full con with this masochist build. Having squire helps you generate money and iirc you can help your team if you are with a pre-made team, some of your skills won’t work with random queue(not sure about this part), you will have a very good taunt and very high hp, also having a decent block and defense while guarding.
PS I know you’ve said you wanted to play a full tank, that’s not bad. I’m just worried about the path you’re about to take, people usually prefer full tanks on dungeon runs and high level areas only, might be hard on your part.
sword>pel>pel>pel>squire>squire>squire Hi sorry but why I should to take squire? is Squire usefull to tank? It looks like a shop with legs
Thanks
When you tank, you will be obviously hit more than the rest of your party. Your equipment’s durability will go down faster than them. If you have squire, you won’t need to stop grinding to go repair equipment in town, thus lowering downtime for your party.
Arrest is also a good mass CC skill.
already explained by velasta. and since you’re going full tank other classes will serve you very little use. you can try sword>pel>pel>pel>cor>cor>cor for a very high jolly roger chance and jolly roger attribute(attribute is obtainable at cor1 though). but idk about a full tank corsair really, you have to switch a lot to use your offensive skills. so squire is really a better choice. Pel3>rodel3 is another path but you might regret it later in the process, I haven’t tried or seen one yet though.
I made a ‘small guide’ of FULL TANK.
Its long and Harsh. If you want to try…
I’m trying sword>pel>pel>cata>cata>cata>dragoon
You can use 1handed spears with Cataphract only?
Always tough that needed to be atleast Hoplite…
Dragoon also has 1H spear attribute
Yeah, but he go loose 3 ranks without being able to tank without swaping weapons :v
Personally I like Sword > Pelt > Hop > Hop > Squire > Squire > XX.
Finesta synerges well by raising your block and the +18% evasion from peltesta skill makes up for the lost evasion and still gives more to spare. Also the Shield + spear skill on hoplite hits like a truck if you are going down the tank route.
I’m reading this thread, and see that people aren’t very well sure of what’s the best tank for this user. I’d like to also ask for a tank build, but I’ll give more specifics.
High hp is simply by putting CON only, STR isnt required. I think 3:1 Con/Dex is good so you get evasion to. There are no self-healing swordsman classes right now.
Plate armor is the only option, the attributes are just to good.
Aggro should not be an issue, you get the ‘Provoke’ attribute in the base swordsman tree to increase’s aggro by 500% at lv10.
The build I suggested gives you +18% evasion + ability to block + taunt from peltesta. Note that You only take 1 point in Guardian for the +18% evasion, the extra defense does literally nothing for you especially later in the game, it just gimps your aggro from more -atk. Pelt also gives +25% blocking, +25% hp on taunt and +50% defense while guarding (blocking. Pretty much a 1 tier wonder class for tanking.
Hoplite gives you +20% block with Finestra (at the cost of 28 evasion which is nothing). Due to high CON the +20% block becomes very nice later on. Finestra also gives you +100 crit chance and 3 AoE attack ration to hit more monster that you taunted. You also gain Synchro Thrusting which is a hard hitting double-hit skill. You gain stabbing which gives amazing AoE aggro when geared with + AoE attack (+3 Finestra also).
Squire is pretty-much the base class for late game tanking IMO. Gives AMAZING buffs from the refreshment table, base camp + repairs and/or weapon upgrades on the go. The refreshment table is just so valuable I dont really understand how anyone going tank could go another class tbh. Plus you get a big AoE lockdown to keep monsters in place on a decent CD, it can also hold boss’s in place.
There are other builds that focus on deeper pelt into rodeleo3 builds which are also very good. but I found this one way more fun and interesting. I think it goes Sword > Pelt > Pelt > Rod > Rod > Squire > Squire. I dont like losing out on the refreshment table upgrades though.
EDIT*
I just want to add that i think the 100% uptime on Finestra’s 20% block+crit+aoe is way better than high guards 50% uptime with massive damage and crit reductions.
Would it be wise to go the way that @er_abrantes suggested then? It looks well thought out, and adding the provoke attribute would be good for it.
Squire foods can be sold to other players right?
So we can just buy them from another Squire
Hi. I am looking for a traditional mmorpg tank high hp buff block etc.
Something similar a warrior or paladin in WOW
You may want to consider @er_abrantes build then…
Im currently S1>P1>Hop1>Cata3>Templar, and gone full con. Level 126 with 25k hp, buffing to 32k with swash. ANd still crit for over 1k and have decent damage. (might be due to arde though).
I am building a full tank too. i am at lv 117 right now with full con and 24k HP. Finestra only give 2% block per skill lv so if you want to get 20% block from finestra you will need c2 of hoplite.
Just like everyone said, damage coming from others (DPS class). My char role should be just to buff myself and to tank. i am PVE oriented.
i am suffering from soloing with low dmg against normal and boss from map/quest but it is doable. Slow leveling but at the end i am leveling up.
This is my current build now with a lot of classes
Swordsman>PeltC1>HopC1>CataC1>SquireC1>PeltC2>HopC2
PeltC2 of course for swashbuckling and guardian and max them.
HopliteC2 for Finestra and stabbing and max them (currently my main dmg skill)
CataphractC1 for movement speed, earth wave (2nd dmg skill for soloing) and mount (Bonus 25% hp and 8% or 10% both phy def and eva of companion).
SquireC1 for equip repair (i hate to spend money every time to fix my equips and traveling fee to the blacksmith).
I’m still thinking that rode is more pvp oriented not pve, i might be wrong. Some like the cc but my understanding is that you are tank and your job is to taunt and keep yourself alive to reduce a healer job so healer can focus on team member. Tank that is easy to die when he/she tanking is not a full tank.
Let the DPS and other do the damage and cc skill. You dont want to use skill with knock back to scatter enemies you try to taunt and gather.
Currently using cloth set for magic res and magic dmg reduction bonus since you probably will block most phy atk anyway with high con and finestra plus the “C” button but magic atk cannot be blocked. Swordsman get the highest phy def per lv compared to other class so you shouldn’t worry about phy def.
Phewww after a long story of my tank life, that is my current build.
it is not the best but i enjoy my tank. Cool HP number, i like when my char mount the companion, lots of block notification (block, block, block), Spear FTW.
Sorry if anything wrong with my grammar, english as 2nd language user here.
Any critic and suggestion is welcomed.
Hello I think I will follow
Pelt1 > pelt 2 >pelt 3 > rod 1 >rod2 >squire 1
