@LunarRabbit My teachers use the Genki textbooks. I have digital copies of them, if you like. The book works very well, despite silly pictures. I have digital copies of the work-books as well. It’s best to use them in tandem. So read a chapter, study it, then practice writing and doing the workbook pages that go with the chapter.

Studying anywhere from one to three hours a day is good, and if you want someone to practice with, I can help you.

Lvl 4 Latin using Rosetta Stone? Good luck with that!
I would never recommend Rosetta Stone for language learning. My favorite method is the natural/conversational approach, though.

And about the whole messing up thing, I found it enriching when I was taking French and Portuguese at the same time. I became more aware of how linguistic systems work and also became aware of things that I didn’t even know in my own language.

I would like the materials and the help! But I can’t really even focus on it until I finish uni in July, there are too many things to do. >.>

I’m mainly trying to plan what to do next and giving me some time to learn things and to code a bit are one of the top priorities, lol. If you don’t mind keeping contact so we can practice once I get time for it. :x Also, if there are anything I can help you’re welcome to ask too.

My favorite method for learning at least the basics alone is reading textbooks on my eReader.

Reading is ok, but it doesn’t account for the whole system in my opinion. I prefer something more vivid, fluid, and natural, even if it’s a constructed scenario or situation.

The way you say is really better but reading makes me focus a lot more which of course works better for learning just the basics imo. By the way I tried an English school to get better at conversation and it was too boring (and too expensive for being that boring >.>).

Anyone on Vakarine wanna team up and grind n play together sometime?? I’m trying out Archer C2 and I’d rather party up than solo hehe… my team name for the kobt is Saegusa!

Have you ever tried taking ESL lessons through TESOL? They offer really amusing group sessions and it’s usually abroad or as an internship. They even offer free trials every now and then. You can go here if you want more info. http://www.tesol.org/

To be fair, I learn best in a classroom. And the rosetta stone was me, learning Korean. I know it has flaws, but my college doesn’t have korean courses. It’s the best I can do for now, unless I can get a hold of well printed/put together college textbooks.

However, as for the textbooks I mentioned, they are written well enough, that you theoretically don’t have to take the class, other than practicing speaking and listening in an environment and scenarios.

@LunarRabbit Just PM me over the forums where you want me to send you those books, though, and I’d be happy to give them to you.

I really tried Japanese, but it was so boring in my case. I didn’t feel challenged learning JSL (Japanese as a Second Language), even if the class was really great and all that. Instead, I took Latin and Ancient Greek. I had so much fun dealing with classics. xD

@Lunalepsy I have a higher purpose for Japanese, and it’s great that it is an easy language. Boredom doesn’t generally apply to me, because language is my passion, but I can understand. Honestly I have a list of over 11 languages that I want to learn and become fluent in. I did take some ancient greek, and it was quite fun. The format of the language is interesting, and you can see the basics of how modern languages evolved.

Also, update! Just checked, and maintenance has been cut back an hour. So it’ll open back up sooner. (11:00 korean time), or 22 minutes.

I prefer any method that is total immersion since that is without a doubt the best method. I don’t think rosetta stone is particularly great but it works in a pinch

I’m on Vakarine but I’m at Lv.61. But as I’m not playing that much you might catch up in almost no time, lol. My team name is Lunar.

I’ll try/check it later. Added it on my favorites.

@Ryouji sending the PM right now.

Great news!

About the reading thing it is that I have something that I don’t know how to explain that helps me to focus on everything I can “see” but I really lose focus almost all the time if there are too many people or need to listen for a long period of time. So I’m always trying things like this ;-;

I’ll add you when i can! Sadly I’m not really playing all that much this week either cause I’m visiting family for the holidays ; 3; I’ll be doing my best to catch up!

I get this when I try to log-in

Edit: nvm, just had to refresh LOL. Patch is up now.

any patch notes? i hope soo

That passion you speak of is what made me become a Linguist in the first place. If you are interested in language evolution, I usually recommend Dialectology, Etymology or Historical Grammar courses. In my case, I was interested in Computational Linguistics at first, but l’ve been exploring other topics, like Visual/Acoustic Grammar and Discourse Analysis.

Patch notes are here ( NEED TRANSLATION):

It didn’t take that long. @.@
