Is ToS really supposed to be quest based?

I couldn’t agree more. Well said.
This game has it own identity and should be in that way. Otherwise, it will be a huge waste of potential to the MMORPGs market.

why would i play street fighter if TOS has pvp already? u can discover things on ur own , don’t do quests and don’t read TOS wiki pages. why would it matter if other players got more level than u by doing quests, if u really like immersing urself in ur character and grind till level 500. do what u want

im just striking example. i dont think any of us is saying it SHOULD be RO. We are still focusing on the topic, quest vs grind. the balance, how much of each etc… i also think this game is an entirely different game by itself and it’s good. if you really read through i think you will see i’ve strike some examples from OTHER games as well to make a point.

apparently, this discussion is going downhill with all the bashing and defensive arguments. @siegfriedlloyd i hope you realize your argument doesnt really establish. “if you like pvp so much, why not play street fighter instead?” was said with sarcasm…

if this is going to continue, it would be nice if we focus on the topic and argue intelligently. argue with elaboration, and not get defensive/insulting. thanks.

A full grind game is really hard to develop this days, it is probably not viable. I like interesting quests, but not the ones that make you feel you are not even playing, quest based games make me feel like a robot or something. Quests should add to the game and not be the only possible way of playing it. A nice balance between grinding/exploring and “questing” sounds more like a plan to me!

Man, I find it hilarious how in the first cbt it was called too much of a grinding game, then in this cbt people find a lack of it. It’s just the exp rates currently which are not finalized that are really the issue here, we don’t know what those rates will be in the end, so there isn’t much room to argue about this now. The only other direct impact besides them implementing KR CBT3 rates was the nerf of blue mob rate, which I can understand and will probably also be tweaked more, comparing the chances for blue mobs before, they were 50x more common at least in the first icbt.

(Sorry, I only read half of the replies …)

The main idea is here. ToS, kinda like Ro, with all thoses classes/rank, and high max lvl (and time needed for reaching it), was … Clearly oriented grinding, and party/teamplay.

But ToS doesn’t permite grinding. Or … Well, kinda a waste of time on normal mobs. When solo, you just want to rush maps/quests, coz, that’s the only thing worth it.

Yeah, okay, they don’t give enough exp … So, sometimes, you group with random people for joining camping on stupid event (Maussoleum …), when you nearly just refresh your aoe spell, while waiting for respawn …

Then you go back to questing.

Okay, it’s still EARLY game, and “nothing” really matter, when you remember about the “godly” lvl 500, max rank, but … It’s clearly not enough.

With this much classes/rank, we kinda … Want more. Tons of classes but … We don’t need any of them. Why do you think their is this much barbarian ?

So, yup, we need real grinding. Real party. (Even world boss doesn’t mean anything … Aren’t worth anything, actually)

We need to use our brains, to make a combo of classes, to find a suitable spot for farming, and to, somtimes, struggle against tons of monsters (Yeah, we need MORE mobs), or powerfulls ones. Or tons of powerfull ones. And deafeat them with our good compo and teamplay.

ToS doesn’t profide much of this … We don’t have much maps open when searching for a spot, coz of the differences of lvl, and all of them doesn’t provide muchs mobs. Even more when thoses mobs can be one, two, or tree shot by many …

The questing thing isn’t bad … (Even usefull, sometimes, to finish your lvl up, when your low hp/Sp when fighting/grinding) But their isn’t much more than this option. And … This, is a problem, actually.

its possible that since this is just the 2nd beta for international thus not caught up to the current korean version that the level gaps late game in quest are there because late game content doesnt exist. the level cap vs the world map seem to provide some hope of this

also when it goes live people should realize that any F2P will have some xp increase item. with it questing straight through to level 600 might be possible with a few of them

the only reason any one cares is that they want a specific build and it takes time to reach that goal.
