oh really? so why did imc claim it was ddos attacks that crippled silute server for weeks last year?
SA is different. The entire backbone infrastructure of the internet in SA is absolutely terrible and the effects of ddos attacks can cripple parts of the network at earlier hops, effectively crippling the network and preventing a datacentre from having any first-hand ability to apply countermeasures.
At the end of the day, if you cripple the pipes completely and totally there is nothing that a datacentre can do without digging up the local lines and installing bigger pipes. Complete saturation is significantly harder in countries with a better network backbones as there are simply more failsafes available. You canât crush the network at an area outside the datacentre because the ISPs just automatically change the routing when they see unusually poor routes indicating poor network conditions. In countries with a poorer backbone there are fewer routes making that kind of attack more effective.
Honestly I think itâs amazing that theyâre hosting servers within SA at all. Itâs not something my company would ever recommend. Extremely high risk and incredibly difficult to operate reliably.
EDIT: Haha, and as I post that, an attack begins. They took the forums down for 15 whole minutes! How terribly damagingâŚ
That gif kills me every time.
I should get the original and put some text of my own
and put some post here and from the game.
