IMC, can we give Paladin the swordsman "provoke" passive?

I’ve almost rerolled to full Con wiz for cryo 3, linker 3, because they can group mobs the best and CC the best.

One of the biggest things to consider is that in a party setting, swordsman will typically always be the strongest. Most of their buffs are self buffs that cannot be shared, but other classes often can share their buffs. So when swordsman receive other classes buffs, they are just that much stronger.

The idea is not to replace the swordsman like I stated, but to bring paladin up, help them have a better identity. I mean, why have a paladin as a “defensive support” when you can scroll barrier, and other classes do it better than them anyways.

I agree. But why have a Swordsman tank in the game if you have a Cleric tank (if you have good aggro and taunt with paladin) that heals and buff the allies? That is the question. Swordsmen like Peltasta will be useless in any party.

They could, yes, improve the Paladins (by the way, they should improve the class, really). But there are several other methods to make it a good class. Improving the buffs would be a good thing to see, no +aggro/taunt.

I had suggested last year to change the mechanics of provoke.

Peltasta Provoke - rank 3? debuff or special debuff

  • enemies (even players and bosses) are forced to lock-on on the Peltasta. Meaning enemies affected can only aim at the Peltasta until the debuff disappears. Making Peltasta a true tank even in PvP.

Paladin Provoke

  • increases Paladin’s aggro. only applicable against PvE and summons/pets in PvP

We should just replace Swordsman, honestly <_<

Swordsman was never thought/supposed to be tanking at all, the facts talk pretty loud here. Especially after rebalancing, most Swordsman Classes are just selfish-prick powerhorses to mow down masses of enemies, considering that you don’t see many of them having a defensive Class like Peltasta in their build unless they are Murmillio;

In fact, most of them don’t even wear a shield anymore.
And they are mostly Heal-moochers (the only worse moochers are Schwarzer Reiter-builds, surprisingly) that stop potting if there’s a Cleric in the party, no matter how high that Heal is (they even steal my level 5 Heal if I’m trying to self-heal on my Pardoner and while having way less current HP than they have).

A self-sufficient tank in the form of Paladins would be great for the game and substitute for the lack of Swordsman able/willing to tank (most of the time they run around in circles anyway after mobbing some monsters, which can be done by ± every Class, no need for Swordsman here)…

They should give Paladin auras kinda like what they did with Restoration where allies that are nearby the Paladin gets the benefits so it would make it feel like as long as you’re nearby the Paladin you feel “protected”.

Like make Resist Elements work the same way as an aura and maybe give him 1-2 more auras like a DMG Reduction aura or a DMG increase aura that cannot be used at the same time (one deactivates the other) so if your party needs survivability you use your DMG Reduction Aura and when your team is gonna go in do their dps you switch to the DMG Increase aura, so he’d work as an aura buffer (which atm I don’t think there’s any kind of buffer type of cleric, except for maybe Priest), also the auras would be Rank 2 buffs so they don’t consume buff slots (basically like Restoration right now).

I would appreciate if they could give every ‘blue’ class the provoke attribute that you can toggle on and off. In my opinion they should move that attribute from swordsman to peltasta and rodolero.

If cryomancers, paladins and quarrel shooter would have that attribute and could fulfill the tank role it would be awesome for team variety.

Cryomancers gust spell for example could be changed to be an aoe taunt similar to swash buckling. Peltasta and rodolero should be buffed/changed a little so they would not be underwhelming compared to that.

On the other hand it would be great if some ‘green’ classes other that those on the cleric tree could heal the party. For example phyiscal link from linker, a pet command from hunter and a spell from corsair or templar could give some group healing.

I don’t understand why only clerics have to be healers and only swordsmen have to be tanks where there are so many classes to choose from and blue/green/yellow classes already exist

Because the father of RO has a very narrow field of vision. Look at Swordsman, only they had provoke. Acolytes are the only ones who had Heal. Only Archers could use bows, and mages are the best AoErs in the game. Same here in RO1.5 : Tree of Savior Edition. nothing has evolved, sadly. :frowning:
