I read in the Swordman forum that criticaldmg + comes after the "crit boost "(The 1.5x)
Phys atk gets the 1.5 boost from crits so phys atack is better Sadly :<
Got on my Headgear +150 crit atack never see phys atack lol

Critical Attack is added after the 1.5 critical modifier.

It’s “pure” damage that goes through defense. It essentially has innate armor break.

It also does get affected by

  • Deed’s of Valor (I’m not 150% sure of this one though)
  • Armor Penalty (Plate, Leather, Cloth)
  • Damage modifiers (damage debuffs)

For Critical attack to be favored over physical is when you can get 1.5x times more of it if I’m right with my assumption.

Highlanders in the sword category get a 50% bonus to total Critical Attack with 2H swords.

Well so if you near crit cap the crit dmg (Yellow??) gems could be better then the max dmg Red gems?
I dont have the new states in my head^^

I don’t think crit attack goes through inner skill modifiers like snipe though.

Nice. But one question @celgaming.
Do you know how it relates to Running Shot? I guess it is safe to say that Critical Attack applies to both hits but how about the 280% with Didel? Does one also get Critical Attack amplified?

P.atk gets modified by crit damage which is 1.5x however, P.atk gets reduced by P.def.

C.atk bypass Defense as it is added at the end of the line.

which is better? ask these yourself first. can you penetrate enemy def? if yes, get red gems. if not, get yellow gems.

there are skills the renders target to zero def. and some skills bypass pdef. which are typical of them to pick red gems.

It’s also safe to say Critical Attack will always be good because it ignores all defenses.

insert future proof term here.

Crit atk are safe to pick because it ignores def value. future holds nothing but unknown. monster might be immune to debuff like armor break, and with how R8 works with these uber high P.def and M.def monster. P.def might become an issue. making red gem less viable over yellow ones.

Not to mention Red Gems are max attack on the main weapon.

Only off-hands get pure physical attack.

So if you compare say a Red Gem lvl 7 with a Yellow Gem lvl 7

  • Red = 1 ~ 310 (1 ~ 465 crit, affected by p.def)
  • Yellow = 470 ~ 470 (pure damage, bypasses p.def)

Since Red Gems are max attack, people simply divide them by 50% to get the average so a Red level 7 gem is effectively:

  • 155 physical attack, 232.5 critical (on average)

While a yellow is just pure damage that bypasses all defenses.

This sounds like if youre dont have Highlander C1 take Yellow gems.

The “critical attack is better because it ignores defense” argument makes no sense to me because no physical attacker ever does less than the defense of a monster

Defense is not a flat decrease in damage. Ask any mage out there.

It is a flat decrease in physical attack + skill attack. Because of all the multipliers that go on top of that substraction, it ends up not being a flat decrease in damage. Check the damage formula and test it yourself if you don’t trust it
