Hunter and Pet AI

Ok, pets now are completely useless, they have the intelligence of a rock. When someone use the skill “Rush Dog” is so effective as throwing a rock in someone’s head, both(pet and rock) will be throw into the enemy, maybe stun him and they will stay in that position, the only difference is that the rock can be more lethal.
This can be fixed making the pet’s AI more simple, just make an action bar for pets with three buttons, “Agressive”, “Defensive” and “Passive”.In agressive mode make the pet attack who i’m attacking or who i command him to attack, in defensive mode make him attack the first enemy who attack me and in passive mode just make him follow me and do nothing. Changing the pet’s AI everytime that a player press a button can be very unstable.
Other thing that bothers me, pet’s design. I don’t know about the others but i don’t want hunt with a beaver thing and whatever that other thing is, they look like things that you found in fallout games, hunter’s pet need to be unique and bound to him, give them a dog or a wolf for god’s sake. One more thing, make their level be equal to their master level.
Now comes the brilliant combat system, where you see your companion’s ass be ■■■■■■ hard by many enemies and you can only hope kill them before they finish your companion’s pain to come after you, better run buddy. If you want a hunter class in the game you must provide a way to his companion stay alive in battle, the most efficient way is provide an retreat skill making the compation return to his master position and enter in passive mode.
There are many other things that i would like to tell but i’m a bit lazy today, plus there always a high chance of this topic be ignored, i know that is always someone that can make this class shine even in this shitty situation, but i’m not one of these guys, i’'m just a casual player that is relaxing a bit after a day of work. As a fellow programmer i know that reworks of that kind consume a lot of time and resources, but it has to be done. Sorry my grammar mistakes, thank you for reading and have a nice day.

There is one thing that I wanted them to fix…

the target highlight… I’m already used to the current state when I order coursing my companion will target the most nearest enemy to me. but I would like them fix it to attack the one I highlighted… coz seriously… what is the used of me choosing a target.

hunters companion really need fixing… I’m also hoping in the future if they could allow hunter to go with 2 companions too. maybe add an attribute to a C3 hunter for that. coz come on… you get C3 hunter to get growling… nothing more? wtf was that.

I want some attribute that hides pet if his master uses Cloaking.

In Dungeons is ridiculous when I use retrieve or coursing and until my pet catch the enemy the entire mob get killed. I really can’t understand IMC mentality: Wugushi and Fletcher have a really nice Damage Over Time skills that hits the target instantly and works on bosses. Hunters have 2 skills that CC (Coursing and Retrieve), they don’t stack anymore and you have to wait your pet go walking like a turtle with his 9k HP and if he doesn’t melt like sugar and hit the target, will CC until death the player/monster.

IMO Coursing should:
1- Be a DoT debuff like Broadhead, work on bosses, doesn’t stuck the target but works with retrieve.
2- Remove the damage and stuck debuff but add some debuff like rush dog damage doubles on target or 20% more damage from master’s skills. Works on bosses and with retrieve.

Why have 300 CC skills if you can’t use them on bosses, are single target, can’t be used like a trap (Pet doesn’t become invisible with cloaking), need to be melee ranged but pet can be easily killed while go to target (Player or Monster) ?

But even if hunter players get hope, IMC won’t listen to us. We don’t have 300 hunter players to like the post and call the attention from IMC staff and when I asked to Julie she said IMC know that pet AI is bugged but have no idea when they’ll fix it.

Sad but true.

IMO “Growling” is one of the most crap skills in this game, they made that skill to “fix” the pet’s AI, all archer c3 “support” classes got nice skills, “Split Arrow” from Scout, “Jincan Gu” from Wugushi and what we get: “Growling” , yeah i’ve seen what you done there buddy :expressionless:. They could add some buff for you and your pet like one from wow, sadly i don’t remember the name but the effect was 50% more damage for your pet and half for you, or something like that.

Yeah, we’re a small group, most of archers go for fletcher, rogue, etc. We’re in the dog’s house, buddy .

Please let hunters choose their ‘companions’. Someone suggested allowing us to capture and summon our own mob, similar to one class of Wizards.

It should be obvious to everyone that the entire pet system is placeholder. Very old versions of the game had a different pet system with pet skills, but that was removed and replaced with the simple thing we have now. It’s barely functional, but gets the job done.

-Pet affection has no effect on the game
-Skills other than Rush Dog don’t take pet’s stats into account
-Can’t control pet AI
-Falcons have HP but cannot take damage by any means
-Falcons have Stamina but it does nothing
-Falcons cannot attack on their own
-There are almost no pets

Sometime in the future, we’ll probably get a pet megapatch that will implement all those things at once. Until that time comes, it’s pointless to ask for anything regarding pets to be fixed or added.

I don’t think these are the main problems with the class but they’re quite useless if you’re not a Hunter, i’ld love to see those changes but i don’t think they’ll happen so soon (if they ever come to be), i would recommend you to check this topic later if you have time.

That would be great but i don’t think it should be a Hunter exclusive.

I don’t see any problem with the design as long as they add more options (some available at the CM) that aren’t worse than a Velheider.

I got to disagree on this one, the current leveling system works fine.

Again, this isn’t a problem as long as you level your companion (which can be done with any character). Unless you’re at a Mission they’ll survive easily.

That could be solved adding a summoning button to the hotkeys (i would love that).

The skill itself isn’t bad, the problem itself is that you can’t use Hunter skills while it’s active (which takes 3 of your ranks)…

Indeed, the current targeting isn’t intuitive and even someone that used to it can miss sometimes.

That’s not so easy to implement and it will probably give it more bugs to deal with…
