[Guide] Swordsman's Battle Manual (All classes) - By Cathexis

So, minor update on jolly roger, I’m not sure what’s up with the silver gain. It seems to be very random, I remember stealing thousands of silver in iCBT2 at a time. Now I steal as little as 1 silver from a monster sometimes, and I’ve never seen a looting above 1k now. There were some definite changes to it. On the flip side, I’ve noticed item looting is more common now. Were there any changes to jolly roger in kTOS that I might’ve missed in the patch notes that you know of?

Hello there Cathexis, before asking you anything i wanted to thank you for sharing your swordsman class insight with the rest of the community i’m sure it helped many starter players.

I’m going for the Swordsman->Highlander->Barb3->Doppel2 Sword Build.
Initialy i invested my points in STR as i wasnt to sure on what to get.
I have atm 120 STR and 25 points in DEX and CON.

I believe that i should have went more DEX then STR, can u please explain to me the reasoning behind that? If i’m meant to go more DEX than STR can u elaborate a ratio i should aim for?

Atm im lvl 105’ish and i was wondering to get either Flamini or Lapis i know it depends on ur stats, taking into account my current stats can u give me ur insight regarding what to pick?

First of all, thanks for the reply. You’re really pouring huge amount of time and effort into this thread. Thank you on behalf of the rest of the players

1

I read in one of your post saying Frenzy isn’t really good for Fencer.
Here:

Which is true, no? I have to auto-attack to get those stacks… Or does hits from skills work too?

2

I did read about you saying having both (Attaque Composee and Flanconnade) @ at least Lv1 is good, but since I already have one skill with 0 CD, do I need another? Plus, Flanconnade has percentage of protecting from enemy attacks.
Anyway, do you suggest that I max Attaque Composee? I’ll do a revise build base on your advise.

3

Well… I thought of this before, but I was already level 100+. I don’t have much time playing, so… restarting a new character isn’t really an option. Do you think Peltasta is a crucial circle for Fencer? If yes, then I probably shouldn’t even pick Fencer.

Also, may I know what server are you in? If we are the same, maybe I can say hi when I saw you in-game. And stalk your items a little

Nope, there were no documented changes on any of the patch notes.

Thank you for the update, seems like they did change it not only between iCBT2 and our version, but from kTOS to here too.

It is good to follow a heavier STR build with a Doppelsoeldner since you want to be able to stack Deeds of Valor (which doesn’t activate on dodge). So your stat distribution is good for now.

I would add more DEX to your build though, to be able to have at least a decent level of evasion but most importantly to be able to consistently land critical hits without much problems later on.

So maybe you want something like 2 STR : 1 DEX as a ratio, or if you really prefer STR then 3 STR : 1 DEX is fine too. Just as a general guideline, you don’t have to follow them exactly that way but they give you a good idea of how to distribute your stats then customize to your liking.

Sorry, that must have been confusing.

Frenzy still stacks with auto-attack; however, recently there were a few minor buffs to Barbarian on kTOS and at this point I am anticipating those same buffs to hit our version too.

If we get those buffs too, then I consider taking Frenzy / War Cry to higher levels a much better option and leave Helm Chopper as a stun enabler / Strike skill but not as a main damage source.

Even if it still stacks with auto-attacks, it is fairly easy to get them up with the attribute as you only need to get 10 of them, so it is not as troublesome and you will still get the benefits for all your other attacks.

The difference is that Composee is Pierce while Flanconnade is Slash, so you have two different damage types available to you at all times with a 0 cooldown.

It is not necessary to max it if you would rather max something like Sept Etoiles, but if you have spare points then it is one of the better options to give your points to.

Not necessarily “crucial” but it does help a lot in party content.

I think it is fine if you don’t have it in your build and would like to still pursue a Fencer class though, so don’t worry too much about it. Highlander still have it’s uses, so you will have to be more proactive / creative when it comes to party content.

Klaipeda.

Oh yes! That’s a good thing to see. I guess I don’t need Giant Swing and Pounding then

Is Sept Toiles even good? I think I saw a video of the skill dealing damage around the user, but… If I recall correctly, the evasion up time is extremely short.

Yeah. I can foresee that non-Peltasta class is not needed for grinding later in the game. But oh well, since you said Highlander is fine, I try to make up to it. Thank you.

Cool. Is your team name Cathexis?

HI, awesome guide! Too bad I’m a bit too late reading this guide as I’m already at rank 4 with Peltasta C3 but nevermind I’ll try to build my own character. I’m at dilemma right now whether to choose Fencer or Corsair as my next class. I’m more into tanking and I’ve read that you said Fencer is good paired with tank class. SO should I go for Swordsman->Peltasta C3->Corsair C2 or Swordsman->Peltasta C3-> Corsair/Squire->Fencer or any other recommendation? Thanks

Just remake man. If you don’t like your current build

I think you are thinking about Esquive Toucher.

Yeah.

Don’t worry too much about it, gotta make the best with what you have. And yeah, if you have no preference then I will recommend a build with Fencer on it:

Swordsman->Peltasta C3->Corsair->Fencer->Doppelsoeldner

It has a great balance between PvE~PvP~GvG and you also will get to use your Swash Buckling Level 15 with Cyclone once you reach Rank 7, which will be amazing for when you do high level party content like Earth Tower.

First of all @Cathexis, huge fan. your posts are always very easy to read. Love your discussions and guides.

I am at lvl 100 full dex(150) , C3 Swordman C1 Barb. I also unleashed my founders pack on this character along with other packs given during this EA.
I also maxed out the passive attributes for Gungho & Concentrate.
I am using Lapiz katz and Golden Falchion currently for Crit Att dmg.

I crafted this build and wish your input on it if you do not mind.
If my build is screwed, i should go templar instead of dragoon.
If there any other alternative good path after my C1 Barb?

Hahaha! Yeah yeah. Thanks. Sorry. Sept Toiles is already maxed out in my build. But thank you. Thank you so much.
Yeah.

Okay. I will say hi if I ever see you in-game. I will send a friend request too. Do accept if you don’t mind. My team name is Dile.

Thank you!

Hello,
Here is my reworked PvE (solo & party) build after your advices:

But i have some questions for you @Cathexis,

First one, wich stats build would you recommend for Barbarian/Doppelsoeldner build?
You said to me to go for a all-around build, but it will greatly decrease my damages. Less STR and more evasion would just prevent me for stacking DoV and decrease it’s effect.
Isn’t It better to go for a heavy-STR build with plate armor and crit rate gems/items? (I’m currently doing it, 3 STR : 1 DEX : bonus points in CON)

Second question, Is Double Pay Earn lv1 enough? Or should I put more points into it?

What do you think about Redel? Should I reduce Zornhau’s damages to pick it? It just looks like it have less damages, more CD and no extra damages on Shock targets… What’s the point of this skill?

Last question, wich attributes should i up first? (except Plate Armor Mastery, Concentrate and Gung Ho)
Should I improve Cleave or Seism attributes or keep my silvers for Doppelsoeldner’s skills?

Do you have any other advices for my build?

Thank you a lot.

for future reference what one handed spear should I aim for at 170 (was using Zega Spear)

Ok. I gave up and created another one.
Sword > Pel > Hop > Cata C3 > Goon.
2 str : 2con : 1dex

Also, the mount pet will make huge difference? I already got a lv 39 Hoglan but I keep seeing people advicing Velheider.

Thanks again man. You have a fan here.

Greetings to Cathexis and other swordmans.
I am at a loss and seeking for support in form of information.

ATTENTION: wall of text is coming (sorry for that and for any imperfections in my English).

1) So, let’s start with my current state.
For now, I am SW-SW-BARB-BARB 100+lvl with stat allocation 2DEX:1STR (including statues and quests).
Yep, I know I’ve failed with sw2, but for the moment I’ve picked it I was unaware of low efficiency of restrain and poor scaling of buffs. Let’s not talk about current skill allocation because it’s a little mess due to me picking and trying everything (I’ll just reset all this when needed).

2) Now, for what is troubling me. First of all, thanks to Cathexis and some other guys and their topics. With their help, I’ve managed to reduce the number of many options that was up in my mind.
From the beginning, my target was Corsair and his DWA (thanks to Steparu’s videos). So, I was like: “I am going to be F***g Kirito, slashing those monsters to death with auto attacks under all the dd buffs I can get!” So, it was quite naive and my dream of Kirito the Pirate is now shattering bit by bit. Swordy buffs scaling poorly, DWA is eating tons of stamina and sub weapons have their on key for attack, etcetera.
BUT. I’m still up for the pirate’s glory. But now there are some variations up on my mind.
Let’s say for now I’ll go like that: SW-SW-BRB-BRB-COR-COR-???
The thing is in those three questions. Options is like that: Cor3 or Barb3 or Dop1.
Let’s take a closer look.

3) First of all, here is related info.
My goals
Comfortable solo play and decent damage on bosses and monsters. Maybe solo farming dungeons if possible.
Stat Allocation.
I’m going to be 2Dex:1STR until cap, cause I’am mostly like to play alone and for that I need survivability. DEX will be giving me approximately 80% DOGE . With no guardian from pelt and with plate set and mayby couple of evasion stones it will be possible only if I spend this much of DEX (I base my calculation on Vyne’s Tos Mechanics Guide). Also DEX will provide me Acc and CrRt so I think it should be viable choice. Unless you prove me, wrong or give some advice for adjustments. I’m not using CON because I hope to rely on vitrov hp boosts and plate mastery, but if it isn’t enough I’m willing to adjust just need advice on that.
Equipment
Armor will be plate. For now I think it doesn’t matter what exactly but later it will be roxona and then vitrov if it is obtainable.
Weapon. Offhand for now Arde then Karacha or Venom (dunno which one is better). Main for now will be Velniup or trinity and then I just don’t know what to pick (Illizia seems the best but I was unable to find info on it)
Jewelry. Gladiator band and Sissel (maybe two sissel if it stacks) + Max petamion.
That is it for related info, now for options.

3a) Corsair 3
It’s may be the worst option. But I have some questions on this so lets see.
Jolly – maybe better chance for drops and silver.
Hexen – higher damage
Pistols – currently it’s weak but maybe it will be better?
This three are not enough reasons, I know. But next is…
DWA – gets 100% uptime. With all the stamina from equip + plate mastery + stamina pills could it go for long meat chopping run? And if it could, would it be sufficient on high lvl mobs? Also is it even possible to just stand most of the time slashing with DWA against dungeon/world bosses? If not and you should always move its bad cause damage loss, but at least you won’t fail DWA cause 100% uptime.
So, the question with C3 Cors is mostly in efficiency of DWA. Oh and little silly question while I remember – does fire/holy/other damages proc on DWA offhand hit? And also, do they work with skills?

3b) Barbarin 3
Remark: I can pick it on fifth circle and then go for corsair.
This option is the best in my mind for now, but I still require more info.
Cleave – for some time I thought to have cleave only for 1 point just to make +50 crrt for other skills but now I’m reconsidering due to buff of barbarians. So C3 barb is good for that skill.
Seism – max with no questions. Another + to C3 barb
Chopper – was going to max but now points could go to cleave and maybe war cry
War cry – don’t know if it is really good for me. I don’t like contition of how many targets it affect to get damage buff. On bosses, it will be insufficient. On monsters – I should get a pack of 10 monsters without swash buckling and then survive if managed to get them – seems quite difficult.
Frenzy – I want to max this one but I don’t know if the damage is sufficient. First of all, does it apply dmg to sub weapon attacks during DWA? Without attribute +400 dmg when dealing with boss is good. But getting 20 stacks is tough unless I can trigger stacks not only with main but also with sub weapon attacks during DWA. If it’s possible than the skill is great. 200 dmg on monsters with 10 stacks will be okay either way. Except mechanics issues does this 200-400 dmg is good enough considering that 110+ dmg of concentrate is bad? I’d like to see some numbers of overall physical attack and damage through auto and skills for high lvl contents. May somebody provide those so I could compare.
So mostly, the problem with barbarian C3 is to understand how good Frenzy could be and how much it could affect and synergize with DWA.

3c) Doppel 1
Its seems to be a good choice but there is some troubles with it.
Cyclone – undoubtedly a good reason to get doppel
Double pay – interesting thingy, may help with farming on low lvl mobs
Deeds of Valor – the biggest problem for my poor head. I understand that -50% and even -100% pdef isn’t a problem. The problem with stacks, scaling and synergy with DWA. Stacks – I’m heavily sweaming in my DEX so it will be troublesome to have those, unless magic hits will count, then it’s ok, except being beat up by magic. Scaling – without high uptime like Frenzy’s and with unsure amount of stacks will those 30-50% of dmg for 15-20 sec be better than Frenzy 200-400 dmg for 30-40 sec. Synergy – I’ve seen in skill calculator that this skill also give you higher attack speed, will this work with DWA making it even faster?
So the problem with Doppel is also with better understanding of buff efficiency. Is it better than barb buffs in my DEX conditions? Does it synergize with DWA for atkspd? Does the doppel unsure valor and great cyclone enough to surpass barb C3 due to its improvement of all dmg skills and buffs?

4) There are some other options but they take their base on information that I wish to acquire here. Like mechanics and synergies of skills (DWA, FRENZY, VALOR and other) and some info on high lvl numbers like overall damage and it’s ratio to buffs mentioned.

5) I hope you – Cathexis and other experienced swordmans can help me with my questions. I’ll appreciate if you could provide the information in form of numbers that at least is approximately relevant to high lvl contents and not just say that “this is better or this is worse”. Once more, I apologize for the wall of text. In addition. I want to wish you all to have as much fun in the game as you could.

:skull_crossbones: - “Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! Star Burst Stream!!”:skull_crossbones:

There’s really only one answer here from my perspective.

That won’t be happening with any of your builds. The tier you’re talking about is 7 which you won’t reach until Party play becomes mandatory over level 200. Before that, soloing is totally a doable option and you can survive with your barbpirate. After 200 though… the game graduates you to hard mode where a single enemy kills you from ranged in 3 seconds and tiny solo Truffles are the equivalent of boss mobs. Coupled with barbarian damage being flat and falling off hard towards endgame… you’re going to want a group.
3a) Corsair 3It’s may be the worst option. But I have some questions on this so lets see.
Worst option confirmed. Take it if you want to use the pistol offhand but you seem more into daggers.
3b) Barbarin 3Remark: I can pick it on fifth circle and then go for corsair. This option is the best in my mind for now, but I still require more info.
It’s a decent option for earlier tiers. Not for tier 7. You’re going be gaining nothing but flat damage. Better off picking a higher tier class at this point that scales better into the later levels.
3c) Doppel 1Its seems to be a good choice but there is some troubles with it.
THIS is your ticket home. THIS outdamages anything a Barb or Corsair gets from maxing out their skills. THIS will REPLACE some of your skills entirely.

Hey guys, i am Pelstasta c1, Highlander c3 right now and i am wondering what to do next.
My original plan was going Doppel c2.

I am happy with highlander c3 so far but i noticed that i do really low damage against plate enemies.
With Doppel c2 i have almost only slash damage skills - less damage against plate enemies.

Would it make sense to take Dragoon at rank 7?
Then it would look like this:
Swordsman c1- Highlander c3 - Peltasta c1 - Doppel c1 - Dragoon

The idea is that i could use 2hand spear and 2hand spear, i would have slash and pierce damage to deal with all armor types.

Or is Doppel 2 c2 much better for my build? Maybe Dragoon makes only sense if you take Hoplite?

I’m having trouble deciding between a Dragoon or
Fencer. I have two Swordsmans at level 70 right now, one going the
CataGoon route while the other is going the Fencer route. I want to
stick with one character starting now. I’m hoping to get some insight
from players whom have already reach those circles, or players who have
experience/knowledge with those classes at the end-game level.
Which class is more fun, which class would be more viable in the end-game contents. Mainly for PvE.

Onto my second question:
I’m still unsure which route to take for the Fencer build.
My
character right now is 71, with SW1/Pelt1/Barb1. I plan on going Barb2.
But from there, should I round out the build with Barb3 and then
Fencer2 or should I go Barb2, Corsair2, Fencer1…Decisions!

Thank you in advanced.

So your goal is PVE

Which Fencer Route?

Cata Route goon build is a PVP build. But in the current content anything can PVE.

Pelt1 > Barb3 > Fencer2 vs Pelt1 > Barb2 > Corsair2 > Fencer1.
Currently Pelt1 > Barb2.

all depends on your stats… corsairs are tough and very tanky at the same time… idk about babarian and highlander i havent tried those
