I’d say that depends on what you you think is fun since, with regard to my experience, what on paper looks good isn’t always fun to play. I went Highlander 1 (S1>High1>Hop1>Cata>Hop2>Doppel>Dragoon)- most of his/her skills (except cross guard) can be used with spears too.
For someone who played sword class intensively, Swashbuckling is really a must have. The skill is just too good. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t plan to be a full-tank or offensive-tank, swordie’s natural tankiness can let you tank on dungeons.
If you play with a group, there’s no need to find a tank if you have at least Pelta C1. If you play with pubs, you are in-demand.
When going through fields, it’s really hassle for melees to go near enemy > kill > repeat but with Swashbuckling, you can just taunt all enemies within your screen (even reaches abit farther outside your screen) and kill them in one sweep.
It does gimp your build on PVP for abit.
If you think you are going to casually stroll into Earth Tower and swashbuckle as a DPS build, you will wake up once your mutilated body hits the cold stone floor.
It falls off pretty hard later on if you are not a tank.
then again, what are you doing in earth tower as a sword.
im not talking about earth tower.
swordsman c2 is completely useless. wizard c3 for example has much more usefulness
Scrub the whole dragoon idea and become a sword 3 pirate ninja !
On a serious note. Reroll if you can. But if you’ve levelled up too high already then just play on. You won’t be the best tank. But provoke level 5 still works in my experience. If you have aoe dmg skills then you are good to go.
You are talking about end game and using swashbuckle in the end game. Dont get me wrong, its an amazing skill and will help you a lot at least until lvl 150 but saying that peltasta is the one and only c2 choice because you can mob a bit better is plain out wrong.
seems everyone rolls swordsman c2 just for the lame stun… that stun skill sucks! don’t bother
@ Cookie Cutter Force lol, nice.
And here I thought ToS was a game that broke with the concept of “useful” min-maxed-characters and went the way to design classes that are about interesting gameplay…
Maybe it’s also helpful to think about players going Squire / Templar, etc. - their “effectiveness” in combat is also diminished, but is that really the point?
Up until now, from my perspective, the problem is that combat in general doesn’t impose much challenge because of the passive AI.
You have a lot of freedom in your class choices but even with the most balanced system, cookie cutter builds will always be around. Doesnt mean you cant just ignore them and plan out your own build.

You’ve been misinformed young padawan.
I rolled swords c3, not just for the lame stun. Restrain at level 10 is AMAZING. 40% proc rate and it lasts approx 1 sec. It also functions to boost dmg of skills requiring stun, but you gotta be quick.
AFAIK Restrain was bad in CBT but they buffed it so its good (atleast at C3)
There’s nothing much to say that hasn’t been said already, but here’s my two cents.
Both swordsman C2 and C3 are what I’d call offbeat builds. It’s not that they’re useless or anything—everything has a niche that can be utilized somewhere—but what they offer isn’t what I’d call as effective as the other Rank 2 & 3 options available.
Honestly, if you want to keep your current character either of your solutions are valid, but I wouldn’t recommend them. Given your circumstances, my choice would be:
Swordsman C2 > Hoplite C1 > Cataphract C3 > Dragoon
Overall, you miss out on [Guardian] (Evasion Buff) //// Weapon Swap [Swashbuckling] or [Cartar Stroke], which are both great tools, but they’re hardly necessary for the powerhouse that is C3 Cataphract.
thanks for the help all,
ill probably end up rerolling a dragoon, and use my lv35 Swordie2 mess up char for later for another build, maybe cataphract3 or ninja or something, or maybe go S3 and pvp
The only thing that sucks is that my first swordie has all my Founder EXP tomes XD oh well, ill be thankful for em when i end up picking him up again
Make it a Templar so you can make guilds on any of your characters.
Not a bad idea actually, hmm
Just like me!
This is my build:
just get more dragontoth and less dragon soar, bash3, no punish plz max deeds and double pain earn, and max crown =)
i’m going sword3>high>corsair>doppel 2 xD
Thanks for the tips, but why bash3?
