Extremely Linear

Just pointing this out. It is probably way too late to change this, too. This game is exactly like every other MMO out there.

You create a character, pick up Quest #1, then proced to Quest #2, 3, 4, 5 ect in order until you complete all the content in the game.

Anyone expecting to be able to roam around and find special maps to go to to level will be disappointed. Anyone expecting more than one major city will be disappointed. Anyone expecting any variation on where you go at level 10 is going to be disappointed. This is not a free roam MMO. This is a theme park MMO where you follow a pre designated path with no variation whatsoever.

Anyone expecting boss fights to be fun will also, be disappointed. This is the one that can probably be fixed.

I disagree, specially ‘exactly’.

actually I did already many side quests, which were not shown and i was not even out of the first map.

you sure like “anyone expecting” dont see it makes sense to argument about your points.

@nova_terratr I have different opinions on a lot of that but I’m going to test a bit more before I make my mind up about it.

At higher levels there are maps that are not in your main quest route. I was farming on one of them at level 53.

ya, i want change graphics…

It opens up a lot later.

Seem pretty linear at the low levels… Doesn’t feel like the old payon dun / culverts / many low level field maps so far. But I’ll defer judgement till higher levels.

Keep in mind this is still closed beta, they can always add expansions and branch off from the starting town or from other areas after release, but for now i prefer the limited branching options i’ve found in game already.

I had a feeling it was very hallwayish due to it basically being the starting maps, it makes sense that they would want to structure the progression somewhat to help ppl get use to everything. Hopefully the training wheels come off a bit later on.

Its not linear, you feel this way because your essentially doing very beginner things.

It’s hard to level out of the linear phase of the game with .10% exp.

I’m about level 25, so far these ‘side quests’ are mandatory. I’ve done every single quest, talked to every single NPC. Side quests are not a new revelation in ToS. Does not make this anything but a theme park MMO up to level 25 so far. Most people won’t even give the game that long when they see it. Especially those who are looking for a game similar to RO.

It is similar to RO. It isnt RO though. If people that want a RO with updated graphics decide to leave, so be it. I enjoy the game for what it is, an MMO where u can decide either on questing/grinding(both are fast ways of leveling up) with a complex and fun class system.
