Experience Cards for Noobs

After doing my own research on when to use them, and what are the optimal moments. I came across a lot of different opinions, many which were kind of far fetched and outright wrong.

Let me explain so i dont sound like some on the pedestal entitled jerk.

  1. The exp on the cards is fixed, this means the amount of exp it gives wont change no matter what level the player is. E.A a level 1 card will always give 500 exp.

  2. Not using or using card does not change the amount of exp your character needs to level (i know is kinda tard im mentioning this, but i read people claiming otherwise)

Wanted to help people that think the above is true, it is not.

The answer to the Million Dollar question: Should i use them right away or save them?

The answer is pretty simple regardless of opinion. Depends on your play-style. Ill clarify:

-If you play solo, higher mobs at 200+ do a lot more dmg and have a lot more HP, so they dont get one shot often. The density on those maps seems a little lower as well. This means from 1-160 there is many areas were aoe farming is more efficient. In this case saving cards to push through the exp wall, were quests are scarce will help you solo easier.

-if you play everyday with a group 3-4 friends. Personally i think using the exp cards as you get them wont affect you as much, Why? Because i found that the first wall and worst one for many player under 200 is 170-186 reset. Yet there is a decently dense area that is 193 (Downtown) which offers decent exp. As a solo E3 i was on a constant 2mil exp gain (i was 194). This could be easy achieve with a party if you are lower and need to grind. Also to add that 184 (Verktic Square) spawn a decent amount of monsters as well.

I hope the info help those that are still kinda confuse like, and are not following a leveling guide posted by experience players.

Another thing to note that i wasnt even doing myself:

Everyday you get:

-5 Quest that give cards appropriate to your level, inside the mercenary office.

The drop rate is rare but some monsters drop exp cards as well

-Pag Doper level 6 Exp card(confirmed)

  • Gray Jukopus drop level 8 Exp cards (confirmed)
  • Rabbee Also level 8 Exp Card (confirmed)

By confirmed i mean is shows on the Adventure Journal as a drop, so far these are the ones i have, ill add more and bump the thread if i find anymore.

Since someone is going to argue otherwise anyways, I’ll post this exp table here. I found it extremely useful for myself:

So the flat value for exp cards will be the same even though you’ll see huge differences in %s when you get past certain levels. The next level might either need significantly more exp, or way less than your previous level.

Here’s also exp card calculator (with few annoying ads though) if you need to plan how many cards to save up for certain parts:

There is no reason to use cards if you have a good grinding spot at your level range, also i wouldnt advise to use cards as soon as you hit next dungeon’s access level - you dont want to overlevel them too fast and be forced to venture to lower exp/hour places.

I agree, that why i pretty much think that people that prefer solo is better to save cards for those good moments where there is nothing to do, like skipping that horrible 160 dungeon to reach the next one.

As someone with a group of friends that plays everyday, is meh since you will always be able to solidly farm exp, it might not be super fast, but definitely viable.

Clearly you don’t understand about exp cards, because while the amount of exp you get from cards is the same, the amount of exp you get from monsters are different depending on your level.

It’s important when you use it because if you use your card to boost through a good grinding spot (i.e demon prison 2, bee farm) and you’re stuck on 170ish, you’re ■■■■■■. Technically, you can go back to your those grind spots, but it won’t be efficient since you’ll be getting exp penalty.

That is not true at all, I did exactly what you are saying i should not do, and im 198 on my way to 200. I had little issues( i have grinded zero).

Also why go back to those spot, Downtown is 193is mobs, with a party you can grind there at 170 easy which is pass the bee area and easy to reach w.o grinding from using card. That just an example, the popular way of doing is more effective yes, but not the only possible way like many people think.

Situations are different, that why i was pointing out that if you play mostly solo the way you approach leveling is different than when you have a 3-4 people permanent group.

THIS.

for those who prefer it visually:

notice the points where the exp-per-level dips suddenly. these usually coincide closely with gaining a new rank (assuming +0% exp bonus).
if you feel like you’ve hit a wall, use exp cards right before these peaks to get over them faster.
if you want to get a quick burst of levels, use exp cards right after these peaks.
…do both if you feel so inclined.

my leveling strategy is to do both the Orsha and Klaipeda questlines. even without using any cards at all, i find that you easily stay even with, or above the recommended map level (so far, up to 60 anyway, which is as far as i’ve gotten yet. but, i’m about to switch from the 60’s Orsha maps to the 50’s Klai maps, so it looks like it’s poised to continue for at least a while.)

my “most efficient” recommendation would be to follow this quest path, and if you ever fall too far behind the maps you’re trying to work on (more than 5 levels below the map level), that’s when you should burn some cards to catch up, and other than that, just let them accumulate.

that said, i can’t claim i have the patience to actually follow that recommendation lol; i often burn a pile of cards when i get close to a new rank, and more after to get the first levels quick, which is terribly inefficient.

this should work, regardless if you’re leveling solo or in a party, but if you’re with a party, you should probably follow along reasonably close to whatever style they chose for using cards, so you don’t fall too far behind (or get too far ahead).

and of course, as always, our advice is merely that – advice based on what we experienced. Your mileage may vary. Your situations may not line up nicely with the ones we ran into, etc etc. If you experience any rash or burning sensation, discontinue use immediately*.

*Burning Sensations may be perfectly normal if you are a Pyromancer.

but yea, they are your cards. it’s your character. in the end, you should use them when you feel you need them. There’s no exp-related trouble out there that you can’t just grind your way out of, even if it might be a little slow and painful to do at the time.

thats a bad advise for using exp cards. You’ll get that burst of level anyway from killing monsters. Waste of cards.

I just use cards right when I get them…because they give the same exp either way…it doesn’t matter at all unless you want to hold off on breaking a level gap for a zone you’re leveling in so you don’t block EXP gain from monsters.

Please don’t fall for the classic: Do orsha and Klaipeda quest line shenanigans.

You have to understand 1 hour questing a low level zone is an hour you could grind something higher which will yield more raw xp. Also hitting the lvl 50 dungeon a day late or the 90 is worse.

Just rush through to the level 90 dungeon as fast as you can. Chunk cards as you go. Once there you could technically just wait a day and make up most of the xp you"lost" in cards this way but keep going you will hit the wall at around 170.

Knowing this you have several options: Grind demon prison, istoria or something similar a bit.

The last stretch before finally hitting rank 6 will feel longer than it actually is.

After this quest and use cards as you need it - keep in mind 190 dungeon gives very good xp per run.

oh yea… i mean you definitely wouldn’t do ALL of Klai, and THEN go to Orsha, unless you’re just doing it for completeness.

what you want to do is quest for a couple of levels, until you just get to the city… then buy a warp scroll to the other city, and do its beginner stuff. you keep switching back and forth so you’re always close-in-level to the maps you’re working on.

It simply isn’t worth the trouble is my point. You are faster just eating the cards instantly and gaining a single lockout more on e.g. lvl 50 dungeon or 90 dungeon.

Just going klaipeda doing 2-3 zones + mainstory already brings you straight into lvl 50 dungeon.
