As we are seeing here with Tree of Savior: Companies will design a game around combating RMT which has the unfortunate side effect of making a game lose a lot of potential FUN as a result of this.
Now I personally like to believe that majority of the playerbase in an MMORPG are honest players at the launch of the game. What happens, over time, when honest players constantly see people get ahead by cheating or paying to win? They quit sooner rather than later because they don’t want to give their money to shady organizations or they would prefer to earn it themselves.
Then what? You continue to do this every game you play, driving away the honest players because you and who knows how many others have bought your way to the top. Encouraging illicit RMTers to continue their operations unhindered. Giving money to shady websites who may or may not just steal your credit card and use it for fraud.
What is the point of this money spent? You are too impatient to play the game or you don’t have the time to play the game so you buy yourself to the top? Ever thought about trying a new game genre then?
Please, unless a game company has built-in RMT transactions where you can support the actual developer rather than some unknown criminal organization, just… don’t RMT
