Character slots and companions

.[quote=“soldatazur, post:22, topic:356713, full:true”]

You can’t buy 33 TP, it’s 100 or nothing. And dunno if it was a joke or not.

It’s not a stupid idea but they must give one free slot for pet only.
Some people here forget some classes are mounted only.

He was being sarcastic and yes it is a joke
I did not forget that some classes use pet as their mount, but what you said makes more sense. Different slot for pets would be better than counting pet as a character.

If and if the dev suddenly did that tho
and which also make you lose your team lvl, more player will be mad.
OR
they made differnt slot for pet, and the price for pet slot is 33tp
isn’t that still the same?

that looks the same but a character slot is for a character

Since when “character” in game is human only?
they never said that right?
companion also character
npc also character, just that is not player character
they only stated there as character, not human character or companion.

And when you click “Create character” what happens? Do you make a companion? an npc?

That’s for “human character” obviously.
not everyone gonna like separate slots, (I mean separate name) but with the same price and same benefit anyway…
For me, in UI wise …it’ll just going to mess up my HUD (like how other people use multiple addons …which make their HUD a mess)

why dont you make your own game(business) where everything is free?

well im not talking about npc’s bruhh lol you shouldn’t have mentioned it. I wasn’t talking about what a character is in general. And don’t get me wrong, i use add ons but it’s not the dev’s job to adjust their UI so that we can use third party stuff like that. but it’s also useful

im not asking for character slots (or anything) to be free, where did i mention that?

I mentioned about 3rd party addon …only because of it mess up my hud,
nothing more to it.
Having another different button for the same thing (as in adding companion, which also “a character”) is useless, at least…that’s what my opinion anyway.

yes you didn’t mention anything about that but its obvious about what you are implying to.

i’m not implying that, but it’s up to you how you think about my post

and i respect that, but for me, at least it would make much more sense

My biggest gripe with the way that pets and character slots are handled, is that certain classes then require two character slots to even consider playing. The saving grace, of course, is that they can be shared among characters. But, correct me if I’m wrong, don’t falcons also take up a character slot? If I am remembering correctly, that is ludicrous.

I don’t think anything will change with the model, but what would make it fine with me is to offer 4 character slots and 1 pet slot as default. Pet slots would be a little cheaper than character slots. There would be much more variety in pets, including non-tp pets, and they would do more things. Will this happen? No, and I’m not expecting it to, nor do I think that it would be in IMCs best interest to do that at this point (slot changes, not pet variety). I don’t know any numbers of any sorts, but my assumption would be that it would probably work better if the game were larger with more revenue.

While I don’t think anything is changing, they should totally add way more pet varieties, particularly ones purchasable with silver

for other companion tho
don’t think we’ll be getting other silver purchables lol
there’s silver
there’s TP
there’s guild event drops
there’s pvp point
wonder if they could make you get companion by solving a hard-to-solve hidden quest tho (even if we have tosneet, still hard to solve kinda quest)

Yes, falcons also take a character slot.

I’m going to go ahead and agree with others - the character slots being taken by pets is not a fun thing. It doesn’t add anything to the game. It’s downright frustrating.

I am of course biased as one of my chars is a hunter falconer.

I understand the issues with pets vs character slots due to the team level. I can understand the limitation there.

Proposed solution: Make 2 pet slots. Require purchasing slots after the first 2.

This solution of course frees up 2 slots for characters for everyone in the game, however I can’t see how that can have any negative impact as it would affect all players.

I can’t agree with people saying to just deal with it. It’s definitely a mechanic that should be on IMC’s to-change list if they’re looking to improve the game now, it has always been complained about. I honestly think 99% of the playerbase would prefer pets to not contribute to Team Level at all. Who cares much about that mechanic anyway? Basically nobody.

Remove things that are not fun.

Add things that are fun.

I don’t think anyone will disagree with the argument that it’s not a fun mechanic and isn’t going to really upset anyone to see it get reworked.

It’s definitely a mechanic that new players notice and complain about in their first week or two playing. I think everything that generates negative feelings in the early days of playing the game should be reworked.

I wish they would :frowning: But you’re probably right.

I agree, a hidden quest would be nice, things like that would be wonderful. An intermediate option from something like the 20k BP for the red panda. I want more cute pets

@Awoooo
Augh! That’s rough. I had considered making a Hunter-Falconer at one point, but I couldn’t justify the way it takes up slots. The Falcon especially. It has no other function  but they look so cool!

I also like your proposal. The biggest counterargument I imagine is that it’s not in favour to IMC financially. That isn’t a problem, however, if they make it worthwhile to have multiple pets. I don’t think anybody would complain over more options and functionalities; adjustments to pets, more pets, pets and character slot interactions. As it stands, the only non-vanity reason to have more than one pet is Hunter-Falconer. Otherwise you never need other pets. IMC would make more money with pet slots.

I also agree with the rest of your post. Every friend I introduced to the game has mentioned all the same qualms with the pet system. Many of whom typically play pet classes and collect them in other MMOs. As it stands it is not a fun mechanic, and reworking into such should be something everyone could get behind.

I don’t think it changes anything for IMC financially.

The people that can afford slots will buy slots for the characters they have the time to make anyway. Or, they will spend money in the TP shop instead. Either way people have x amount of money to spend on the game, and if they’re willing to spend it on the game, then the game will get it. If I had not been forced to spend it on character slots(a long time ago) I would have spent it in the shop anyway.

Another serious negative this mechanic probably has is to reduce the number of people that pick 2 of the classes in the game. (Which reduces the devtime fixing the bugs those classes have because they’re lower priority dammit).

Totally still showing my bias though.

I tried this game last year but quit after reaching r7 coz the lag that time was sooo annoying. I just tried this game again because there’s an event going on making it easy for new players to level up. Now after weeks of playing, i still noticed that there are many restrictions (im fine with some tho) that makes it uninviting for new players.
I considered making a falconer too before i read your post, and my character slot is already 3/4 lol. I would not mind spending money for tp to buy a character slot, but i’m having a second thought whether i want to spend money on this game or not. The restrictions, bugs, and other things holds me back from spending a single penny on this game. I hope they improve how they manage this game first rather than looking for things that would make them a lot of money.

Exactly.

The early frustrations should be removed from the game. This will generate good-will in the playerbase, renew a lot of trust that has been lost, and will even surprise a few people.

This list is what I think is the order of the earliest concerns the majority of players have are:

  1. Marketplace restrictions.
  2. Small but very visible bugs. Like chat bugs. Quest bugs.
  3. Character slots.

I obviously put char slots on there a little later because it’s not something that people notice immediately. It comes when they’re testing char 3 or 4 out on day 2 to 5.

There aren’t any super-serious issues right now. The really big major stuff has improved a huge amount over time. There are however lots of small frustrations that people combine together into feeling a large frustration.

The market should almost certainly be changed now with the faster levelling changes as the early economy is in shambles on Fedimian right now. By the time new players are allowed to use the market they are waaaaay past low level content.

I think some of the bad behaviour we see from some people comes from the fact that they actually really like the game despite its problems and struggle to find ways to express constructively how it upsets them. Shrinking the number of small negatives will leave them with only the typical MMO circlejerk that occurs in every game to moan about - shop and endgame.

Whew. Wildly tangential thoughts there. Longstory short - I support fixing frustrations. This thread does bring up a frustration that adds nothing that anyone cares about. Nobody is going to jump in here to say “But I really really like the team level mechanic and will be quitting the game if it is reworked/improved so we can have pets and char slots fixed”. When nobody is going to argue that a mechanic is good/fun, the mechanic should go away or change.
