Are Alternate Steam Accounts against Terms of Service?

There should never be a ban on such a thing. It’s ■■■■■■■ stupid. Say, for example, you and your friends wanted an extra account for buffing their chars. Why pay the ridiculously over priced squires, alchemists, repairers and whatever when you could literally make your own character on a separate account. Owning two accounts and dual clienting, or even using on two separate computers is no different than just playing two characters on one account.

Now when people multi box and bot/macro then I can see that breaking some tos agreements. Unfortunately like the other guy in here said the ip sharing of family members or roommates could be seen as “multiple accounts” And get them banned as well which is unfair.

well yea, i dont think it should automatically ban you if your using the same ip.

Im just saying that it should be official that using multiple steam accounts should not be allowed.

I think there are FAR more people abusing it then using it legitimately.

Does having multiple steam accounts break valves tos? Idk I never read it but one would errr in caution regarding that. Multiple accounts are usually in the grey area

Unless they used those other accounts to sell token then get silver. Self-made, self-service RMT.
Stupid if you ask me, they pay minimum ~16$ to be able to sell 1 token to get ~350k-500k silver when they see on their chat 100k for 1$ most of the time.

And pray they only spend 16$ for a single token, seeing as we’re all humans, I doubt that’s the only thing they want to get from 16$.

because one account is usually used as a throw away for illegal activities.

Botting / Buying Gold then transferring that item to the main account

if your playing with friends and family, they should have thier own steam accounts aswell.

In my opinion I find it a bit stupid, but it’s not RMT really. These people are buying multiple accounts to get themselves more in game cash. They’re going to do the same thing once TP is allowed to be bought. They’re LOSING real money, not gaining any. Now if they’re buying these accounts to GAIN money (real money not game money) Then yes it’s RMT. Hence why the R in RMT means real.

Post didn’t update so I didn’t see that, but yeah there are bots who are doing that, but should players be punished just because a bot does it? Should imc just remove mobs because bots are farming those for silver and selling the silver for real cash?

But i mean this is Exactly what they are doing. People are making a shitload of throw away steam accounts, selling tokens and botting for days on end then selling the silver on websites.

RMT is a business. I don’t see any reason why a business can’t be losing money at some point in time.
Buying founders to multiple accounts for the sole purpose (if its the only purpose again 16$ for 1 token, I doubt they’re happy with that) of acquiring in-game silver then trading it to same player’s main account is abuse of system imo.
If IMC wanted to give the players an easy way to get silver in-game they would’ve placed something like TP->silver or something similar.

just noticed you updated your post.

If you are playing with friends and family on same IP ( like a LAN party or something ) then each player has their own steam account. So then i wouldn’t be against the terms of service.

Only multi boxing and duel clienting will be against terms of service which is what i would support.

There is really no reason to duel client / multi box in this game IF you are playing legitimately

  • you cant effectively have a heal slave in the game without a macro / bot
  • since theres so much restrictions on trade, you cant really have an alternate account to sell your loot from one account to the next
    - also, you can use the market to sell your items
  • I seriously don’t see how someone would lvl a char to lvl 175+ just to save 1k or 2k on time limited weapon and armor upgrades. join a guild or make a friend with someone who can give you the weapon and armor upgrade.

Unless i’m wrong, the benifits are minimal for using multiple steam accounts. Unless someone could state otherwise. if you have 2 or 3 alternate accounts, your probably cheating in some way or another.

I’m not saying the people who use multiple accounts are RMTing. If they want to waste another 90 dollars just to get some extra in game silver by selling tokens then let them. They’re doing it already on their main accounts and they will do it once IMC implements a means to buy TP. I agree it should be bannable for anyone RMTing as well as buying silver from 3rd party websites which, if you haven’t noticed from the few threads, has been happening.

I agree with you on the fact that you need to bot/macro just for an effective heal slave and/or buff slave.

My query is basically based off what you said.

I’ve done it in previous games where I’ve made buff slaves or leech slaves on separate accounts (maplestory basically) because I didn’t want to pay the hundreds of millions of mesos just to have a benefit that I could do myself. It’s basically the fact that when the prices become inflated. I’ve seen the weapon and regular buff prices go up in the past few days. Basically I feel if someone wants to spend the time (and money because after f2p you will obviously have to buy tp) Then let them. Not everyone is going to want a guild, or if they manage to make a guild they may only want to have a few select friends in it.

If the amount of people cheating with multiple accounts exceed the amount of people not doing it then yeah it should be illegal. However I don’t see that happening.

To all the people who think having multiple accounts is proof of someone being bad, is this your first MMO? Have you never played any game like this before in your life?

good point.
I personally would never lvl another char just for that reason but, i play like 2-3 hrs a week. but thats just me.

perhaps time will tell. I personally think that in a game like TOS, the people using multiple accounts for legitimate reasons will be extremely small.

obviously multi accounting exists in all mmos. What im saying is that, based on the game mechanics of TOS, it doesnt make sense to use multiple accounts IF you are playing legitamately

If IMC deems that there’s suspicious acitivity in your dummy accounts then I guess so?

Yeah and if they are, then they will get banned. But having multiple accounts shouldn’t instantly make you suspicious of them.

Still it should raise suspicion seeing as existing bot and exploit requires multiple accounts if you want to try and cover what you did. Having multiple accounts results in your logs being probed.

Of course not. Just because I own dozens of accounts, doesn’t mean I’m a rule breaker.

After all, I can have hundreds of accounts without ever creating a single character.

What on earth are they going to ban then? What exactly is my crime?

At the end of the day, it’s their game; so I’ll gladly accept any punishment they have in mind.

Once they’ve taken care of the botters, spammers, frauds; and got nothing nothing better to do, that is.

Nobody said you’ll get banned if they see you own multiple accounts and they find nothing suspicious or anything they deemed inappropriate in your logs.
Stop being stupid.
Point is if you own multiple accounts, with possibility of being able to use bots and the steam exploit, it sets you up unto the list of persons to be checked.
