Spear users do. Against medium and large targets.
Cuz i didnt really find it to be good in anything. But most importantly he sux in duels.
I was challenged to duels all the time while i was on my hop and lost all of them.
I havent been challenged to duel even once on my cata. I challenge ppl all the time to duel and like 80% reject it. And yes i usually win.
Do not roll Hoplite hoping it to be any good in pvp.
And do not expect hoplite alone to do any good in pve. It needs compliment from higher ranks (Dragoon, Corsair 2, Spear Lunge, Finestra and Stabbing combo really well with some other ranks).
Not only this, Spear Throw is great as a filler.

Catas are indeed good for pvp.
I think he meant this, it was added to hoplite circle 3.

this is a great example of a decent class progression. you won’t feel gimped by just picking less than three circles of the class; unlike other classes that are useless until the third circle or are pretty useless beyond the first circle.

No, it’s not. It came with kTOS’ rank 8 patch.
